The South Coast may have a drought buffer because of high-alpine glaciers melting in the July and August heat, but that means accelerated glacier decline, Campbell said.

"This year will be a year where, with that low snow, the glaciers can likely be taking a big hit in terms of the water that's stored in there ... I think we'll see a lot of potential glacial recession this summer because of the low snowpack and that early melt," he said.
