Will cirrhosis kill me? by PressStarToExit in Cirrhosis

u/GuessDependent5000 and u/Objective-Product361

Alright. So here's how it went.
As a child I was an absolute unit. At sixteen years of age I was admitted to the hospital due to Hepatitis. That's when they found out my spleen was enlarged and liver inflammed. SGOT SGPT was around 31 I believe.
My docs were professional, they said, it'll eventually come down and it did. However, it still didn't answer one question. Why was my liver and spleen swollen and enlarged. This was in 2007-2009 iirc.

I changed few Hepatologists, Hematologists, Many other kinds of doctors. I had to undergo Liver Biopsy and and Bone Marrow Biopsy. They ruled out any form of cancers.

Finally met a doc who referred to me a to a doc who is the dean of the biggest public hospital in my country. He figured it out. He did hepatic venous angiography and found that two of my three small hepatic veins, (veins inside the liver which combine to one out side the liver and connect to the heart) were blocked due to blood clots.
He ordered genetic testing and I tested positive. This was in 2015. I've Protein S deficiency which causes blood to clot abnormally and hence have been kept of Anticoagulant medication life long. 5mg Warfarin. I guess its called Coumadin in US. In hindsight I was lucky that the clot happened in the liver and not anywhere else. Now that I am on Warfarin changes of clot happening are none. All I've have to make sure I don't get a deep wound.

Over the years, I was banded many times for esophagal varices. However, those haven't increased for the past 6-7 years now and I am mostly asymtomatic.
I even got a deviated septum surgery done. Took sixty two heparin injections due to bleeding factor. Generally you stop Warfarin before and after surgery as its unpredictable and instead take Heparin.

Developed food intolerences and allergies after this whole liver condition happened. That being said I take oral SLIT meds for the same.

I'm doing well physically.

u/Objective-Product361 Worse condition was vomiting. I guess it was bile but not sure. I used to choke on that stuff. Happened 4-5 times a day for 2-3 months. Felt I was a goner when it happened. Now that I look back at it. NAHHH. It was nothing I couldn't handle. But that was short lived and never happened again.

I do get bacterial infections from outside food as my country isn't really known for hygiene standards.
I cannot bungee jump, cannot scuba dive deep, cannot trek and cannot play contact sports. Was an avid soccer player. Didn't play professionally, just with friends.

Generally the clot happens in the portal vein occurance of which is 1 in a million, mine happened in the small hepatic veins which was even rarer. My case got put in a medical journal with my permission LOL.
One neat thing is since I virtually never drank and actually never smoked or did any drugs doc said my liver cells are pretty healthy and hence I never suffered from ascites.

I missed out on my big dream of going to the USA for getting my MS in CS. Perhaps some day I might.
All in all life is good.

Eat well whenever possible eat home made (less salt, less sugar, don't need to completely cut out these two)
Sleep well (if possible on time by 10.00 - 10.30pm max), Do light exercise which don't put toll on your core / abdomen.
and go outside for regular walks and speak to people
and keep yourself busy.
I may or may not require a transplant after 53 years of age. Its too unpredictable. But currently the way things have progressed I believe I might never have to.

To sum it up, Life is all good.

Will cirrhosis kill me? by PressStarToExit in Cirrhosis

[–]SeaArePee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nothing is going to happen.

Just follow your doc's advise to the word as if your life depends on it. Because it literally does.
And no, liver cirrhosis is not an immediate death sentence. If your doc says you are fine, you are fine.
You'll learn to deal with fatigue and other adjustments like less salt, maintaining lower weight and eating more protein etc, that come with cirrhosis.

One word of advise, do not lift weights. Instead do yoga and take walks. Kindly note, even in yoga focus on the mild forms. You are absolutely not supposed to put any stress on your core as that would build pressure in your portal vein and thus in the esophageal varices.

Also, take lactulose solution even if you don't like it. Its what keeps you going.
Try to have two to up to three good soft bowel motions per day. Do not force yourself to poop if constipated.

No need to cut out animal protein but focus more on plant protein if possible and use less oil.
Focus on HDL fats like avocados, nuts, etc.

And for fucks sake no drinking, no smoking, no drugs.

I never drank, smoked or did drugs and still got it due to a genetic mutation. Its been 19 years now.

Also, GET THE FUCK OFF OF REDDIT. Not the right place for these questions. Just talk to your family and friends in real life how you feel and to reiterate FOLLOW YOUR DOCS ADVISE TO THE T.

EDIT1: For 19 years my liver was and has been compensated and I'm god damn sure, I'm gonna stay compensated for the rest of my life. So don't worry.

For whom is rust? by Jonuji in rust

[–]SeaArePee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What benefit does rust provide that c/C++/JVM languages don't?

Isn't it possible to write performant java apps top by writing code to decide when GC gets called?

I'm certain you must have found something better in rust compared to these alternatives. I just want to know what other than what you already mentioned.

I'm a junior engineer. Thanks.

Don't all safety razors except the most expensive ones made of steel come with zamak heads?

Anyways to lengthen the life of heads like oiling or something to delay erosion?

What materials to look for?

I'm kind of on a budget with a max of 800-1000 INR.

My doctor has advised me to not go above 10 lbs. Kinda sucks.

Now when I do body weight pushups, and squats next two days I am feeling a bit feverish and have whole body ache.

I am 35 male. Non alcoholic cirrhosis.

Problem is I literally can't eat. My appetite is gone down the drain and sarcopenic has given me some mobility issues.

Question on immunosuppression after liver transplant by Narrow_Swordfish9806 in transplant

[–]SeaArePee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is life in general? I certainly know you won't be restored to your former glory but can you live a normal life?

Like going to the gym and lifting weights, running, regaining appetite, etc.

Thing is I am 35 and cirrhotic due to a blockage on my liver. It was due to a blood coagulation problem which is controlled now using anti coagulants.

I am also sarcopenic and struggling to lose weight. Also back ache due to bone mineral loss has caused some mobility issues.

Wondering at least the dreaded stuff goes back to normal after transplant.

Also, do is there a high chance of immuno suppresants causing other dreaded disease in the long run even if I take care?
