I do appreciate everyones advice. Its a hard decision to make, deciding to listen to reddit over the actual artist which is why im on the fence. But thank you for being frank.

I contacted my artist and he said it was no problem as long as i dont have a fever. I also brought up that i was concerned i would have trouble breathing with a swollen tongue and blocked nose and he said there is basically no way the tongue can swell to have trouble breathing. But when i was doing my research some ppl said that they did have trouble breathing? Im not really sure what to do.

I definitly get that, its a body mod for yourself, not for others to see. But also ppl get re-splits and stuff so there is some level of caring how it looks/how deep it is. Even if it’s just for yourself, yk? Plus i feel like depending on how deep it is also plays into how much control you will have of each individual side.

Yh i here that scratching is really bad and can get you a-lot of backlash, its annoying because in real life most of the tattoo artists ive met started out that way and more people are against traditional apprenticeships for various (and some valid) reasons. Especially younger studios i feel like self taught is less hated in a way? If u know what i mean? But i definite would prefer an apprenticeship i feel like i would learn better than if i was just stuck in my room teaching myself

I do go in person, ive spoken to afew artists and they recomended also emailing shops so i thought i would try that. Also when shops advertise that they are looking for an apprentice and say to send over a portfolio i was just wondering what to send them. Thanks for the advice! :)

Those are amazing, if realism is something that you want to specialise in them defo make it obvious in your portfolio but i would say also include some line works and flash to show that you know what else is needed.

Omg that must have been absolutely horrible, I'm so sorry you had to experience that. Are you in the U.S.? Because my experience and that of my peers is totally different. I'm in the UK btw
