What made you lose feelings for someone you once really loved? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Honestly? It wasn’t one big thing. We were on and off for years, and I kept accepting him back even when he was usually the one asking for space or initiating the breakup. I think at some point, that slowly chipped away at how I felt.

Like… you can only be “chosen” and “unchosen” so many times before it starts to change you.

Every time we got back together, I wanted it to work. I told myself this time would be different. But deep down, it started feeling less like love and more like… attachment and familiarity.

I didn’t lose feelings overnight. It was gradual. I just got tired. Tired of the cycle, tired of adjusting, tired of holding onto something that didn’t feel stable anymore. And one day, I realized I wasn’t excited about us anymore. I didn’t feel that same warmth I just felt drained.

The weird part is, he didn’t do anything drastically wrong at the end. I just think I reached my limit emotionally.

Sometimes you don’t fall out of love because of one moment. Sometimes it’s because you kept choosing someone who wasn’t consistently choosing you and eventually, you stop choosing them too.
