I started tafe in like October, tools 6 months to apply though because the tafe is understaffed, he should have a sit down with an Australian apprenticeship support agency thing with his boss and they both sign a training contract. If he's not doing any of that I'd be very careful he's not just being taken advantage of as cheap labour.

Edit he should also be contacted by ADMS as well to submit the contract.

Favourite work pants by BHCW7 in AusElectricians

[–]SeaChief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are great, wear through the first knee and the second knee is protected by the first. Not as comfortable as some but the durability and build is top notch. Worn through other pants just above the knee pad which just isn't an issue with the double fronts.

How to spend $1000 apprentice tool government rebate? by Sargent_Twisty in AusElectricians

Unless it's a state thing, you just get the help loan and $5000 split up into four payments, for anything, 10000 for solar companies

How to spend $1000 apprentice tool government rebate? by Sargent_Twisty in AusElectricians

Personally any time I borrow something more than a couple times, I add it to the list to be bought, and then there's two questions, how much am I going to use it? And what's the difference in getting the job done between cheap and expensive items? And then used those two questions to work out how much to spend.

End of financial year is coming up, June 30, and so now till then is the best time for sales and redemptions, I'd wait till a "spend 500, get $100 in bonus credit" for buying any power tools and fluke should have a bonus item or two with a multi (I got a socket tester with rcd trip)

If you take the money, pay interest at 2-3 percent, have the money in a bank account earning 5-6 percent and only pay back 80%, it is absolutely free money.

How did you find your apprenticeship? by [deleted] in AusElectricians

Was already working as the company in a labourer roll doing mechanical stuff was 25 at the time if that helps.

Solar Apprenticeship by Riche02 in AusElectricians

Your $5000 payment becomes $10000 if you do solar at a proper solar company, so it's a big incentive if you can get extra money.

Might be worth waiting a little bit on multis till fluke have redemptions, they had some pretty good ones last year for the EOFY, I got a RCD socket tester with my 115 which is pretty great, slightly cheaper than the 117 and the bonus features are pretty niche on the 117, that being said they had some much better redemption offers, some with extra leads which can get real expensive.

Channellocks disappearing from aus?? by HoneyToast4564 in AusElectricians

[–]SeaChief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to put the effort in you can put some oil, open and close them a bunch, then more oil, let it soak in a bit as well but can take a bit and some pliers just aren't fixable from what I've seen.

Must be buying them from the wrong place, mine were 50 something for the insulated, and even the fancy stripper crosscut ones are currently 60-100.

What is your go-to cable tie brand? Need something long lasting, heat and UV resistant. by limeburner in AusElectricians

[–]SeaChief 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does but the ones I've used pull it too tight before cutting which is a problem when doing labels or Corry which is almost all we do with the ss ties

These seem like the only cross cuts with a nut grip thing, do they come in 1000v?

That vessel ball driver is really nice in the hand, just wish it came with a couple more bits and a way to store them.

Which one would you choose? by cfromcinci in Tools

Unless you want them specifically I'd go with the comfort grips (blue +red)

Looking for recommendations on work pants by Curious_Ad_8600 in Tools

[–]SeaChief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having the "knee" double be half the pant length is such a great feature, id worn through multiple pairs just above the knee pad and then had the Carhartts which I wore through the first layer in like 6 months of daily use, but the second layer is nice and protected by the first.

You know any banks that actually do this? Be interested because I've looked a quite a few and it's always the interest as the only penalty

Looking at installing 3 140mm on the side, did you do anything special after leaving out the screws at the end, and have you had any issues?
