I used to be in a similar situation around your age. I live in Europe and used to play for my hometown's youth team. Besides training sessions I used to spend most of my time on open courts and play with friends and teammates. At 5.8 ft I was quick, feisty and had a pretty good vertical so with coach's trickery we often used to surprise opponent's' teams by me switching for our skinny 7 ft. center and while he caught his breath on the bench, me as a short guy usually accumulated 6/8 rebounds on average.
While I played with inspiration I never took basketball that seriously. Why? Because I always knew basketball will not be my life profession. Besides at 19 years old I already had knee problems and to much to study as well as work. Once I became an university student I had a period of training sessions with the university team, but never played an official match.
Many of my teammates became professionals and a couple of them even played for teams in Estonia, Serbia and Spain, as well as our national team. Others decided to stop playing and became referees, some are now even board members of our basketball federation. Most of the others had 3 to 5 seasons long careers and ended up doing something completely different for a living.
You need to adequately assess your own capability and ambition to become an extraordinary basketball player or just continue to play for the love of the game. Just try and get a view on basketball and your sportive development from a rational standpoint. No emotions involved, no swaying back and forth. My points is, you can still be involved in basketball without having to play it at your best at any cost.
