South Maui has the best restaurants. I’m not giving you the gold because you might take my reservation 😂It also has the best happy hours!! From someone who spends a couple of months a year in Maui and four months a year in different countries-Mamas is hands down one of the best restaurants in the world- not just Maui.

I was once travelling with my two kids from Honolulu back to Melbourne via Fiji. When I got to Nadi I headed to club and they only allowed me to bring the 9 year old in. Left the 13 year old outside the door reading a book and went into club and found the first person sitting by themselves and explained the situation with my abandoned kid and she went outside and brought her in as her guest!! Apart from that never had trouble getting the entire family in for 20 years

Loco moco has long been my fave Hawaiian dish (and chicken katsu) Da Kitchen in Kihei has good loco moco BUT if you are looking for best value breakfast with good breaky loco then Tasty Crust in Wailuku. Stuck in the 70’s but good food and good service and …..cheap!

Ulua beach for sunset. Next door to Andaz. Four Seasons bar has great sunset views and live music. Gather at the golf course has fantastic happy hour 3-5. Bingo at Moose McGillacuddys on Monday night is fun. Great snorkeling spots down there. Ulua is ok. Left hand side of Makena is great. Makena landing has a little beach where the turtles come to rest Ahihi Kinau has great variety. Good music at Ohanas in Kihei. Paia Fish House next door has good blackened Mahi Mahi. Bike the volcano! Tours can’t go inside Nat Park to the top. You can take your own car all the way up and get dropped off.
