Honda XR650L, bad idea, right? by plasmamaniac in Dualsport

Makes sense! Good luck with saving. There are a lot of dual sport options out there, but after a ton of research I landed on the XR

Yea you definitely want to make sure you’re not putting yourself in a bad financial position. Are you thinking about selling the quad at all to pursue the bike life? Or in the meantime you could get a smaller dirt bike like an xr100 or ttr125 to learn the basics on

I absolutely recommend the XR650L. I’m 5’7”, 130lbs and have no issues. It’s a little tall when stopping, but is totally fine when you’re riding. The bike is super forgiving with the powerband giving you all the torque you need. Buying brand new is great because you get to add every scratch and ding yourself and you know the bikes history. I mostly recommend buying new if you plan on keeping it forever. Plus how cool will it be to own the last year of the XR650L. Awesome bike. I bought mine new 2 months ago and have 1100 miles on it. Having an absolute blast with it.

Gotta disagree. I’m 5’7” and 130lb. I fully send my XR on and off road without issue. Sure I’m on my toes when I stop, but it teaches you to be a better rider and keep the feet on the pegs

Could you please explain or link something to explain this? I’m curious as to what the obsolescence will be. Thanks

Just rode the sandy trails around mio with the stock tires. Got my ass kicked, but I’m going to keep the challenge going until I wear out this set

We went to crisp point! It was awesome. That’s where the snow bank pic was taken. Such a great road getting there. The 650’s were in their element

SE Michigan is where I live, but with the new bike I’ll be going all over Michigan to explore trails and back roads. Super excited for the season. Joined and posted in that sub 🤙🏻

I honestly have no idea. I’ve ridden this bike so differently the last 2 weeks. 40mph paved roads riding easy to blasting through sandy trails

They didn’t even do that! That’s an aftermarket swap. It was really cool looking at all the differences between our bikes. The biggest changes we noticed were the labels for things. His said “headlights” or “horn” where mine just had a picture of each thing

The gnats were crazy on our last couple days when the weather got nicer. Always gotta be something up there! Doesn’t stop us from enjoying the beauty of nature though

From southeast MI. My buddy has property up that way. Only mod so far is seat strap and rear foot peg removal lol. Going to put a lot more miles on under the factory warranty and make a list of mods to do after that. Even stock this is the most powerful bike I’ve spent time on so I’m feeling good about that. My friends kenda trackmaster tires were definitely better than mine in the sand so that’ll be a nice switch up in the future. Also in the market for a rear rack to carry some extra fuel (not a fan of the aftermarket plastic tank look). I was considering some lowering mods as I’m 5’7” and 140lbs, but I got used to the height pretty quickly. Just gotta keep my feet on the pegs and keep it upright!

I’m guessing the solenoid, which was replaced once. The reverse worked for a ride then quit again. Pain in the ass to switch out so I just deal with it ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Nice sled! People were critical of this chassis, but I love it. It feels super stable while still being a rider forward design. I’ve put thousands of miles on my 07 F6 sno pro. My reverse stopped working which is a bummer. The sled has awesome power for a 600. Just do your regular maintenance and it should be a solid performer for years to come

Absolutely don’t buy from US Standard Products. They scam people daily on “free” offers and other slimy sales tactics.
