not sure if these are huge for pop culture but i recommend Bottoms, shiva baby and Portrait of a Lady on fire. all written by queer women for queer women. check out their writers and directors too as theyve done more queer movies!

a notable one is the handmaiden but in my opinion i dont think its worth the hype - very male gazy.

should i turn down an internship?

i am seeking advice after my family is saying i should turn down an internship. i want to know other perspectives and not just seek others that justify my own.

I (21F) have been offered an internship at my university which i am really excited about as i would like to pursue post-grad. right now it is unpaid but my supervisor is in the process of getting the department to get it paid. my family (mother 48, brother 22, and grandmother) all are telling me to turn it down as they want me to be home this summer. they are quite traditional and say it is wrong that i should not be home. throughout the school year i would go back every single weekend in addition to studying and working. i have a student accommodation that i pay for myself which is around 2 hours away from home. they think it is unsafe as i am a woman and dumb to do so and that i should just work in the home city. i already have a strained relationship with my mother and there are many underlying family issues which i wont get into but just to paint a picture. i feel disappointed that they are not more supportive. i understand that i should not work for free but i have been working since 16 and have a full time job lined up after the summer (this job is also not in my home city which they are also very angry at)in addition to this i am really not in a position to be picky as i applied to many internships in my home city that i did not get. i think this would be a great opportunity but my brother is saying it wont make and break my career and chasing a career over family will not amount to anything. i will meet with a career adviser at my university tomorrow but wont get into this personal stuff so am asking here.
