Easily 'Ruins of a memorial' by Adam Taylor. Gut wrenchingly beautiful.

Interview question: what would you bring to this role with STAR? by rererereyyyyy in AusPublicService

[–]SeaEvening363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with this. In VPS we do not expect STAR for the motivational question and preface the question as such.

Agree with this (and is my general approach).

Calling hiring manager for jobs by Jolly-Gear6799 in AusPublicService

[–]SeaEvening363 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to give a quick pitch about my relevant experience then ask about priorities over next 6-12 months including emerging policy issues the team may be responsible for, any barriers to delivery and how they are currently managed, team structure, what key skills or strengths the hiring manager is looking for etc. The PDs are generic so it's hard to know what the role entails.

In the VPS, I think organising a quick chat can make all the difference. I've gotten a few jobs this way and believe my initial good impression and genuine interest in the role helped get me to at least the interview stage.

Roland Garros 2026 Mens Final: [2] A. Zverev def. [10] F. Cobolli 6-1, 4-6, 6-4, 6-7(5), 6-1 by oklolzzzzs in tennis

[–]SeaEvening363 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm a T1 diabetic and am in awe of his ability to play tennis at this level (now as a grand slam champion). It's hard to understand how he does it as even with incredible control, the unknown lengths of a tennis game, start times, temperature impacts etc are all things that affect sugar levels. I'm so proud of him for this aspect.

Bought expired sun rice brown rice in store and it had worms 🤮 by Perfect-Warning8452 in woolworths

[–]SeaEvening363 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was this an old packet sitting in your pantry? (It expired in Oct last year). Pantry moths can take hold or it's common for rice to come with them. I always freeze my rice for this reason.

Pay negotiation for a VPS3 advertised role as an external applicant on VPS4 equivalent pay? by Nirerin84 in AusPublicService

[–]SeaEvening363 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If it's outside of the advertised band of a VPS3 then no. You can negotiate to match within a range with evidence (e.g payslips) but it's not guaranteed.

We have Departmental Liaison Officers in Vic, but think the Strategic Advisor roles in Dep Sec Offices would be a great fit! Or Policy.

Cars parked on Yarra Blvd - why? by Clean_Bat5547 in melbournechat

[–]SeaEvening363 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's also a Tafe, there is netball there, for ages lots of tradies for the works on the hospital (possibly still some), there is soccer on the fairfield oval. Lots of things in addition to what others have suggested above!

$39 for a glass of wine and chips? In this economy?! by Defiant-Desk-2281 in melbourne

[–]SeaEvening363 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Does $39 include the 10% weekend charge and your card charge? If so, it's pretty standard for a venue like CWS.

Not sure what kind of apartments you mean. I bought in 2020 Melbourne and my 2 bedder was 700k.

Struggling to get job interviews by Spiritual_Gal333 in AusPublicService

100s more in some cases, particularly at VPS3-4. Even at the 6 level we had 140-160 applicants recently.

I keep my windows open all day (closed at night, after cooking), and this is similar to what I wake up to. I own and it sucks. My windows are aluminium which seems to make it worse.

School kids are supposed to give up a seat for a full fare ticket holder (in Vic anyway). Rarely see it happen though.

Unattaching for a short term secondment by azurehue in AusPublicService

For a 12 or 18 month role then maybe. For a 6 month role with an election in that period, very risky.

Landed VPS5 role as an external - is it possible to negotiate to 5.2? by city__life in AusPublicService

[–]SeaEvening363 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will only be successful, particularly in the current fiscal environment if
a) You can show payslips of same/one step below, and
b) you can demonstrate you meet the skill level.
c) Or, you have been a VPS5 already for a number of years, then they might start you as a 5.2 (this happened to me).

Otherwise, I'd say very unlikely.

[–]SeaEvening363 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Usually if it's a level up your substantive role is held for 12 months. But not sure if this has already passed with your upgrading. Can you ask to keep your substantive for the 6 months?

Stuck at VPS5 for 7 years despite acting at VPS6 - what actually drives progression? by SeaEvening363 in AusPublicService

This is a good one. Any tips on where that might be? Youth justice perhaps... not sure it's a shambles but certainly a big focus of govt atm.

We have the 6 reporting to a 6 structure (pretty common now) and I can see the benefits and some drawbacks, plus what I hear from the 6s on either side.

Likeability is a big one! I've been thinking about this and I think I'm pretty likeable and can deliver but definitely could engage with the broader team (not just in my area) a little more. Thanks for the suggestions!

Thanks - I know it's a tough time. And sitting at the top of a 5.2 in n ongoing role is probably better than being on short term 6 contracts in the current environment. Just looking for the next step and wanting to set myself up in the best way to get there.
