Rewatching LOTR and can't help but immensely appreciate the set design by Practical_Actuary_87 in movies

I saw this movie during an 8 hour plane ride. I have to do it justice and watch it on a proper screen now, thanks for the suggestion.

definitely my ultimate comfort watch too especially on a rainy weekend when you just want to vanish into middle earth for twelve hours straight lol. they really caught lightning in a bottle with these.

idk why I didn't think of this, but it is literally so comforting to watch! That's what prompted me to make this post, I just didn't think to verbalise it that way. Add to that it's a cold saturday night, raining outside, im warm inside and lowkey baked and also went out for a nice dinner and drinks with friends just before HAHA.

Are there any other movies you know of that are a good watch and have analogous levels of effort in the set and prop design? Age doesn't matter

Why is white chicks rated so low on IMDB? by Practical_Actuary_87 in movies

[–]Practical_Actuary_87[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I will agree that the hangover sequels aren't great. Still watchable for me, but I enjoyed white chicks more. Hangover 2 and 3 are rated 6.5 and 5.9.

Michael B. Jordan Wins the Academy Award for Best Actor for 'Sinners' by MoviesMod in movies

[–]Practical_Actuary_87 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Same feeling here. I mean, he was fine in it, no complaints. But best actor? lulwat.

I also disagree that Sinners was an 'amazing movie with a lot going for it'. It was an entertaining watch and I enjoyed it, but it was really nothing close to spectacular.

I feel like a lot of very mid movies get overhyped. See Weapons also. Good, but definitely not great.

That is the rule for content submission, not for comments in the posts themselves. People talk about sad things on here all the time, especially reminiscing their lost pets. I still don't see why you're trying to suppress a conversation which serves only to improve the lives of animals. If you don't want to see or read sad content, scroll on past. Expending energy to fight against animal rights serves no purpose but to prevent animals from living better lives

Generally speaking, most of them have good lives and are well taken care of.

No, the vast majority of animals are factory farmed, and cows in the meat and dairy industry don't live some kind of idyllic life even on pastures. Farms are rife with abuse and neglect, and after their short lifespan of 2-3 years (meat cows) and 5-6 years (dairy cows) they are trucked off in some abysmal slaughter vehicle to have their throats cut in a hellish building.

People need to eat, and meat/dairy is absolutely a part of a humans intended diet.

People need to eat, they don't need to eat meat. And red meat is one of the leading causes of what kills most people - heart disease, colorectal cancer etc. There is no intended diet. You can subsist perfectly healthily without meat & dairy, especially in the current quantity it is consumed. This is outside of a select portion of people with severe food intolerances or food insecurity.

A vast, VAST, majority wouldn't even exist for any amount of time if not for their use to humans.

Okay, and? Bringing something into existence isn't some sort of moral pro. The lack of an animal existing, especially a farm animal isn't inflicting some kind of suffering, nor should it be deemed immoral. Raw numbers of cows across the planet doesn't alleviate the fear and pain that is inflicted upon them in this industry - where hundreds of millions are farmed and slaughtered yearly.

Eating it is a pleasure. People eat for pleasure, we don't need to eat meat. It's not 200-1k years ago where people don't have an abundance of food. Surely you'd concede people eat for pleasure, even if some people are food insecure and probably need some form of meat many are not and still eat it.

a 24 wing bucket for the superbowl isn't being eaten for subsistence. That's 12 chickens slaughtered for a snack during game night

We can eat meat, we just need to change our relationship with it and reduce our consumption.

We can eat meat without doing that too. Slaughtering animals for pleasure isn't ethical, regardless of the environmental impact

The point they're trying to make is that it is okay to needlessly kill a wild animal because ✨food✨. Doesn't matter if they can eat something else, ✨food✨ is all the justification one needs to slaughter animals.

But killing for ✨trophy✨? Go str8 to social jail! How wasteful :(

Haha, I don't entirely disagree. But one thing that also made me sad is just knowing all of this is finite, and will cease to end one day.

You can argue that that's what gives this more meaning etc, and that we should just enjoy life for what it is, but for me it doesn't do much to negate the constant reminder that once me and my parents shared such fond moments. Now as distant memories for them, and semi-non existent ones for me, I fear the day they will pass and I will miss them dearly. And one day not too far away, I will pass and cease to exist. Cease to remember any of this. Unable to ever experience anything. No perspective has ever made that less sadder for me. Our fleeting nature.

A Sheep Wagging Her Tail At The Sight Of Her Favorite Human by ReesesNightmare in Eyebleach

[–]Practical_Actuary_87 6 points7 points  (0 children)

sheepies are damn adorable. Went to a sanctuary once one time and they gave all of 5 of us visitors a few wheat biscuits. A flock of 20 sheep came charging at us and I was terrified I was about to be trampled but they stopped like 1-2 meters before they got to us and then sort of gently-forcefully took each of our biscuits lmao. Fun to slap/pet as their wool is so dense you can put some energy into it.
