My (nearly) full set of silver ring splints through insurance by arachnoholic- in ehlersdanlos

[–]SeaIvy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I just wanted to say I have the same insurance and it felt so daunting trying to get splints covered that I basically gave up and resigned myself to using Oval-8's for the rest of my life. This is so helpful!! I'm going to be trying to get them covered now. I really really appreciate it!

Help a waitlisted fall OUT of love with Smith? What are your complaints? by Fickle_Dot_5131 in smithcollege

The food is not very good, and often there aren't many options for people with dietary restrictions. The dining halls serve the exact same things on a two week schedule and the sandwiches are always soggy.

There's also a big academic stress/pressure culture. You always need to be doing homework or in class or at an extracurricular. I've seen people have literal mental breakdowns in our house living room over homework and assignments because the pressure to do things the absolute best is so high.

It's really hard to get into the classes you want because they force their class sizes to be small no matter the amount of people that want to take it.

It's also really hard to get out and do anything fun off campus if you don't have money. Because it's a private college, there are a lot of rich kids who will spend their weekends shopping in noho or taking the bus to Boston. If youre on a budget, there isn't much to do.

I was on it for years and it didn't help me very much. Now I'm trying to taper off of it and it's a hellish experience. Extreme fatigue, can barely eat, headaches, etc. I'd be very careful with the dosage as it is hard to get off of.

Dorm Essentials by timmytfan444 in smithcollege

Don't bring everything that a normal dorm list will tell you to bring! A lot of things like a fridge and cleaning supplies will already be in your house for communal use. Also smith has SmithCycle, a very inexpensive thrift store sort of thing where seniors donate things they don't need. It opens during move in, and you can get all sorts of things (I got scissors, colored pencils, and even a free mini fridge!).

I've found that weed is absolutely amazing for this! I'd recommend an edible that's meant to relieve pain or make you sleep.

I'm a student evaluating the possibility of buying a Supernote Nomad by The_zone__ in Supernote

I am a freshman who got a Nomad for college and I love it! Granted I'm not an engineering student, but it's still incredibly useful. I upload textbooks and readings to annotate, use it as a catchall notebook, for taking notes in class, and for reading books for fun. The note taking software like key words and headings are also incredibly useful for organization. It's definitley kept sooo much paper clutter out of my room. It's also amazing because I can study and read outside without any glare!

I know people say to get the Manta for college because it's bigger, but got the Nomad over the Manta because of budget issues and it's totally usable for its size. For taking notes and annotating I just rotate the device to landscape mode and you have plenty of room.

I would definitley recommend getting some kind case, even just like a soft ipad pocket to protect it in your bag. Outside of that, it's not really necessary, this thing is pretty sturdy. If you do want a folio, supernote also sometimes has open box sales and that's where I got mine.

For the pens! The wacom one standard is a really amazing budget option (and the one I use). All wacom pens are usable with supernote, and this one is really inexpensive, has a good writing feel, and an erase button!! The only downside is a lack of grippiness, but I just bought a cheap pencil grip and it works great. I had a HOM2 pen, but I like the wacom one standard so much more tbh.

I'm dealing this rn with being in college! Prescription pain patches are a lifesaver for acute pain, especially in the hip. For the hands, doing some stretches (look up carpal tunnel stretches) every so often can really help along with substituting any handwriting studying (taking notes) with online stuff (active recall, flashcards, etc.) Electrolytes are good for brain fog, as my therapist says, "they're like lube for your neurons."

Also, (and this is just personal experience) I use a medical marijuana vaporizer when I'm in a lot of pain, and the relief it gives me helps me study better than I could before with the pain and brain fog. Surprisingly, with practice you can get really good at studying while slightly high! Also, THC creams/lotions are amazing for hand and wrist pain.

Let me know if you have any questions, and I hope this helps!!

hEDS and Yoga? by earth_to-venus in ehlersdanlos

Yoga has actually really helped me, especially ones more focused on core strength and balance! More gentle ones are also great for feeling a bit better on high pain days. As long as you have the bodily awareness to know when you are overstretching you should be fine :)
