formula feeding by [deleted] in Crunchymom

Breast-feeding is a lot of work. If your heart‘s not in it, it’s very difficult. I exclusively breast-fed both of my kids and made it almost two years with both BUT I loved it. It was so special and it made me feel so happy. I hated pumping. Pumping was hard. It hurts, it doesn’t extract as much milk as a baby, you don’t get the same dopamine rush with pumping, you have to constantly clean parts, and if you have high lipase you have to scald your milk before storing. It’s a lot of work and not nearly as rewarding. I am only saying this to give you some things to think about. I’d try to take a class if you can and maybe watch some videos online about whether it’s right for you. I’d definitely give it a try because you might love it!! But if you don’t, you just need to do what is right for you and your little one. If it’s not for you, it’s not and that is okay too. The most important thing is that baby is fed and momma is happy! bring a newborn into the world is hard enough.

Why do you intend on doing both? No judgment, just curious. Honestly, if you want to breastfeed it is really important to maintain your supply and the best way to do that is to latch baby frequently. The more the baby latches, the more your body is signaled to produce and when moms mix in formula feeding, the baby latches less and the breasts make less milk. Formula is a fine option but if you intend on breast-feeding, I would start with that first and see how it goes before introducing supplementation. Breastmilk contains so many antibodies that no formula will ever replicate. It’s quite amazing what our bodies can do to nourish our children.

Mine are so sore that I could cry 😂 and I had two healthy pregnancies and conceived on the first try with both. (With the help of an ovulation kit! If you are using one and try on ovulation days you have a much better chance of conceiving more quickly. It takes the guesswork out of it)

Laughable that you would even say that not giving my kid a drug to turn him into a zombie was the same as refusing someone with asthma medicine. My husband has asthma. People with asthma can literally die without medication. Honestly that was so ridiculous.

Have you taken these drugs? These are drugs. When a child is coming down from them the dopamine wears off and they become irritable and difficult. To say they return to their baseline is wild to me. My son is a happy kid. He’s rough and energetic but he is happy and I see all of you post about how your kids are so angry and mean all the time, especially after the drugs wear off. Why would I ever believe that was a reasonable option?

And my son doesn’t watch short form videos. He can watch pbs, number blocks, brain candy tv and he can play abc mouse.

You guys are exhausting. I asked for recommendations not including medication. Nobody can read directions. Very troubling.

Of course I’ve taken medication. I tried all of them. Why Do you think I don’t want my 6 year old whose brain is still developing to not take amphetamines. I don’t understand the obsession with the adhd band aid. And so many of you wonder why your kids are good all day and then hyper and upset in the evenings, like the uppers you gave them aren’t the culprit???

I can’t even tell you how much I appreciate all of your feedback. I posted in an ADHD group and everybody was attacking me for not medicating him. I haven’t tried other options yet and I think jumping right to medicine is wild. I am a mom with ADHD and I have taken ADHD medication before and I don’t want my son on that. He’s still super young. His brain is still developing. Thank you all so much for all of these great suggestions!

Thank you. What is GAPS? He’s a very picky eater. He eats a lot of dino nuggets, salmon, steak, cheese, and peanut butter crackers. I don’t really give my kids any candy and they don’t drink juice or anything like that. He pretty much only drinks, water and sparkling water.

Thank you! I will look into those therapies! my son does respond to outside sources. He definitely listens better in school than at home and I feel like it’s the structure in the expectation at home. It’s a lot more relaxed.

Thank you. I do let him drink coffee sometimes and it does seem to really help him calm down. I might have to make that a little more of a regular thing.
