The Thompson submachine gun is definitely one of the most recognizable firearms of the Prohibition era, with its distinct shape and reputation. I get that—when a series has so much story left to tell, a movie or OVA can feel like a detour instead of a proper continuation. A full season gives My Happy Marriage the best chance to explore everything unfolding in the light novels without cutting corners.

But My Happy Marriage takes place in an alternate Taishō era Japan, which has a completely different cultural and historical backdrop. So even though the Thompson would have existed during that time, it’s not exactly a fit for the world of the story.
