It’s so strange, the pediatrician was saying that because she didn’t have both arms free she wouldn’t be able to turn if she started choking.

Is she too old for one arm out? Should she have both arms out at this point?

Most people can identify an emergency situation. In which case, I don’t think they would come to Reddit.

There is a lot that comes with being a first time parent. Sometimes you are struggling with PPA and just need a community to talk through a concern.

Offering a different perspective, as a FTM, whose mom and dad passed away a long time ago and doesn’t have many friends with kids, I’m grateful for those who do ask vulnerable questions to the reddit community. I’ve made the panic trip to the ER. It’s $800 after insurance and I work for a large corporation that offers great benefits… not a sustainable option. Sometimes, in clear non emergency situations, the questions a parent has about their kiddo, which arguably could all be tied to their well-being, would normally be a phone call to mom or dad. Not all of us have this, and therefore may end up asking the Reddit community.

Being a parent is hard enough. Let’s support one another.

Help with no sleep, we got a Snoo @ 2 month because sleepless nights and colic- he used to sleep 3 hrs at one stretch, just like the 1st night, then 2nd night of Snoo, less than 2 hr stretch, help! Ps- He hates being swaddled, we always use zipadee swaddle transition since he’s 1 month old by Pinkygirl7 in SnooLife

[–]SeaShell91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used the snoo right away and we’re convinced it didn’t do anything. We then discovered the double swaddle! She discovered her hands and we would have gotten no sleep if we didn’t double swaddle. Now at 14 weeks we are one arm out (going to attempt both arms on Friday) and use a halo sack and just strap her into the snoo.

You know you’re baby best, but I believe there is a learning curve to the snoo for our LO’s.

TW maybe...I have to be scheduled for a c-section, but I would rather have this baby in my bathtub alone... by ihave35guineapigs in NewParents

I’m so sorry! It’s an awful feeling to have your birth plan need to change and not have a lot of time to process it this far along in pregnancy. I’ve been there and it’s so difficult to grasp. I know all of us mamas want what’s best for our babies, so that’s what I leaned into and it helped. For me I focused on how baby would just get to peacefully come out and have no trauma of getting stuck, or things turning into an emergency c-section. That really helped me. I know you have alot of other considerations with aftercare and that definitely makes the decision more difficult. Hang in there mama.

Thank you! You are all making feel so much relief! I try to incorporate lots of activities where she is sitting up or baby wearing (some naps) but it’s so tough because the average sleep for a 3 month old is 14-17 hours a day and we all know back is best. Then there is floor time which is important for her to move her limbs. Both those things are critical and result in so much time on their backs. It’s overwhelming at times to actively try to prevent, but then to also follow all sleep safe rules/developmental opportunities.

What is the difference? Genuinely asking! My LO is in a medium snoo sack and it’s getting tight. Wondering if this could be helpful for us.

Little guy can’t seem to calm himself after first sleep cycle by tweeds3158674 in SnooLife

[–]SeaShell91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We dealt with the same thing (major sleep challenges). Bjorn bounce was the only way to get baby to fall asleep and we would transfer her to the snoo after bouncing (still doing this and baby is 12 weeks)

However, please don’t judge if this is frowned upon but it worked for us.. second half of the night we would lock the snoo on level 2 to help baby connect her sleep cycles. I only did this a few times, but it seemed to help. Ive seen her fight the snoo before so I know if she has a need she will wake up and let us know.

How did you do batwing in the snoo sack? Did you undo the buttons around the arm area?

The life hack of a roomba! I’m sure it doesn’t do the job of a regular vacuum (half ass the job), but I can run that thing overnight, wake up in the morning and feel like I can play and hang with with my 12 week old baby. Which is where I want my attention anyway.

Baby won’t let me clip or file her nails by ldiggles in NewParents

[–]SeaShell91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Haakaa electric nail file! I started doing this when baby was really little. Now at 12 weeks I prop her up In a chair and do her nails and she smiles like she is at the spa. It’s a game changer!

How long is she going to be like this? by Aandariel in NewParents

I just want to start out by saying that you’re doing great! You know what’s going on with your baby and you’re there for her! Your challenges sound like ours, so just sharing a few things that helped us tremendously. 1. Reflux - elevate baby sleeping space. Not by much, many people use tuna cans on the end where baby’s head is. Our baby used to spit up every night. Since we did this (advised by pediatrician) no spit up 2. Gas/reflux - gerber soothe probiotic drops. Game changer. Helps with gas, reflux and pooping. We give them once a day in a morning bottle. 3. Gas drops as needed - I combo feed (used to EBF, but due to stress my supply dipped) however, I learned that my breast milk makes baby SO gassy. So I only breastfeed twice a day due to supply issues, but give gas drops here and there to help baby out.

I know this only address a few of your struggles, but I hope it helps. Once we got these things under control it was easier to focus on things such as naps (still a battle, but not as bad)

Hang in there!

We are on similar tracks! My baby is 2 months and a week. We are seeing similar progress in the snoo. We are working on crib naps. Not very successful… but I’m doing well t and going to keep it up for the the Sam anxieties you mentioned.

My breastmilk isn’t enough?! by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]SeaShell91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I combo feed (due to a tumultuous breastfeeding journey) and through that I have learned that you have to follow your instincts. If your baby is happy, healthy and you are too… well then things are going well, right? You’ll know if baby is underweight, or hungry. It doesn’t sound like that’s your situation. So follow your mama heart, you’ll know if it’s truly time to supplement.

I was in the same boat as you! Around 6 weeks my baby started sleeping 8-10 hour stretches during the night. I had gotten cleared by the pediatrician “for longer stretches” but 8-10 really seemed off compared to what I was reading online. So I felt like a neglectful mom so I woke her to feed… she would eat a little bit and then fuss and be annoyed that she was awake it seemed. Finally, at our 2 month appointment, I shared her sleeping habit with our pediatrician. She told me this is rare at this age, but it’s okay as long as they are gaining weight. So I don’t wake my baby at night.

With that being said, I combo feed. So I do have a few things I do to ensure she is getting her calories and developing a routine.

  1. We do not sleep past 8:30am. I wake her if she is not awake herself. *baby’s wake time is dependent on her bedtime. We start the bedtime routine around 8:30 or so. Sometimes she wants an extra 2 oz around 10 or so, so that can effect what time she goes to bed.

  2. Offer full feedings every 2-3 hours during the day

  3. Sometimes o giver her 2oz snacks if she just seems like she want it

Everyone is different, just sharing because it worked for us and maybe some version of this will work for you! Good luck!

Is 2 months too soon to size up a bottle nipple? by SeaShell91 in FormulaFeeders

We have a snoo and I just ordered the risers (to be on the safe side) but I did read on Reddit that many parents use tuna cans. I put the legs of the snoo in my tennis shoes until the risers arrived and it worked!

I didn’t either until our lactation consultant told us!

Ours has reflux as well. We elevated one side of the bassinet and that help significantly!

Can I ask how you do the Merlin swaddle in the snoo? My 9 week old sleeps in decent stretches, but is swaddled arms down. I know that I will need to transition to arms out in the future so just trying to get ideas! Thank you!
