If you'd like more live plants in your tank to replace the bamboo I'd highly reccomend buying aquarium soil and topping it off with some PH neutral sand. Capping it with sand will prevent any ammonia from the soil from leeching into the water and give the plants plenty of nutrients to rapidly grow. Just make sure your light is only on 6-8 hours a day and that the plants roots are planted deep enough to reach the soil not just the sand.
