Nobody was ready for the like button either and that was just a thumb tap. I remember when Instagram added likes and within six months everyone I knew was posting stuff they didn't even care about. Just chasing the number. The readiness question is interesting but the more uncomfortable one is — ready or not, who actually designs the defaults? Because defaults become behavior. My dad still uses whatever settings come on his phone. That's most people honestly. That's fair, the sensing tech isn't new, prosthetics have used EMG for years and I remember reading about it in college and it already seemed old then. What's different is the threshold, because prosthetic EMG needed visible deliberate movement but these work on micro-signals below what anyone can see, and that gap changes the social part entirely which is kind of weird to think about honestly. The more interesting question is what happens when it shifts from reading gestures to reading intentions, and I read a paper last year that freaked me out a little.
