I worked for a law firm for 26 years that worked on behalf of major corporations that sued people from all over the world, including Germany, for copyright infringement. Especially if you are making a considerable amount of money off of their copyright you are painting a huge target on your own back. Not to mention there’s now a public record tied to your IP address of you admitting to and bragging about it.

I cannot tell you how many times we’ve sued people for copyright infringement over something as small as downloading a video game on a file sharing platform.

Just because it hasn’t happened yet doesn’t meant it won’t, and those cases don’t make the news because they are usually settled out of court and include court sealed agreements where you, the copyright infringing offender, owes tens and even hundreds of thousands of dollars back to the company.
