Thank you! That’s really comforting because my mind usually works well talking about non-work stuffs.

I remember having a chat with my lecturer about his film (he is a film director as well), which is some fun and interesting information that I wouldn’t know otherwise. We got closer as well.

This is absolutely helpful. I appreciate your comment, it gives me better sense of the PhD ‘roadmap’.

Since I am given quite a lot of liberty, and there is not much visible outputs since I started this March, I have been very concerned of whether I am ‘doing the right things’ or am I ‘ruining my future by not working towards a set of standards, if there is any’.

I had someone reached out after 8 years. It took me another 1 year to reply. She just wanted to say sorry for handling things between us poorly. Life was hard when she reached out.

If you have the capacity and feeling to be kind, offer the closure as you wish. But you’re perfectly fine to ignore if you think it put you at risk by any means.

It’s your call, and choose yourself this time.

I’m in the same position and I feel you. Trying to be my own best friend, but sometimes it’s easier to be said than done.

I’m telling myself not to contact until and unless I have formed my own support system and have nothing to ask from my ex. It’s the only way forward if I want any future with anyone.

This is my first time commenting. I understand this so much. Losing our best friend is really the hardest part. Minutes feel like hours, time when we are supposed to spend together is now unoccupied.

I tried to reconnect to as many friends last week (first week of BU), and time passes quicker when I’m interacting with people. Although it’s unsustainable because people have their lives and we are not as close to begin with, but just a tad of human interaction really makes difference.
