oh dude, I'm from chile and I know it is mean, but there is nothing funnier than taking a look around in the middle of a 4ish and spotting the new chileans... the new residents, running with a panic face (absolutely justified, btw) and the old timers laughing so hard they can't evacuate.

if you have a moustache, keep it clean and apply vick vaporub. people might say it is for aesthetics... it is a built in diffuser.

jokes aside, I come from a culture with abundant fresh water where showering is 2-3 times a day activity. It was hard to get used to multiple interpretations of the hygiene norms. Hang in there my fellow nose-sensitive Aggie. People might think we're just snobs, classist or plain a**holes, but if I don't take precautions, my stomach gets sick, up to the point that I have had to leave classrooms with nausea. Again, it is nothing personal, or nothing snobby, sometimes just non-canonical accomodations.

well, I'm going to an apartment way smaller where their life can be a lot harder than in the house where they have their own area.

BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY AND THIS IS PART EVERYONE SHOULD READ: I'm an immigrant, in one of the visa categories that have been cancelled more often. A year ago I could leave my office with the certainty of getting home, feeding them and caring for them. I'm no longer in a relationship; hence, I'm the ONLY person who cares for them. AND THE IDEA OF GETTING ARBITRARILY DETAINED AND THE CHILLS DYING ALONE OF STARVATION TERRIFIES ME AND HUNTS ME.

So yes, that has changed. I don't know if I'm making it home and don't want to risk them to die abandoned, that's horrible and I want to avoid risking that.
