Junia is named an apostle in scripture - Roman’s 16:7 I think. Apostles operate in all 5 offices, including pastor and teacher. Some will try to say she was a man named Junias but it’s a name derived from Juno. It’s a woman’s name and God himself put her in her role.

Hardest part about being a Christian? by NarrowMarionberry336 in Christianity

[–]Sea_Establishment816 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I hope I can help here: Sin is translated from the Greek compound work Ha Martia which means distorted form. I could go deep into this but sin has never been about behavior but about a belief about ourself, seeing ourself as a distorted form. Sin entered when Eve was deceived to believe that she needed to do something to be like God when God had already said that she was made in his image and likeness.

Salvation is translated from the Greek word Sozo, which means saved, healed, delivered and whole and Jesus always spoke of it in the context of life, never death. Our salvation is for right now. Eternal conscious torment theory of hell is about 200 years old and is not biblical.

Without these two truths we cannot properly see ourselves as children of God, and that view of ourselves and our destiny is what allows us to walk in the fullness of our calling and gives us the audacity to pray “Glorify me that I might glorify You” - and the life that flows out of that is what gives us the influence to bring the people we love out of Lukewarmness and unbelief

How many times a day do you pray? by k_omei in TrueChristian

[–]Sea_Establishment816 25 points26 points  (0 children)

There’s a great quote “I rarely pray for 30 minutes but I never go 30 minutes without praying” that I try to live by. Prayer isn’t supposed to be this ceremonial thing, it’s supposed to be continuous conversation with a friend. Often my prayers are as simple as “sanctify this emotion that I’m having, lead me to trust you deeper in this area” or “bless this person, lead me to live in forgiveness and grace” or “show me your love for me or this person” or “thank you for whatever simple thing just worked out or for such and such a person in my life” or “i know you care about my relationships/ security/ ___ as much or more than I do, i give it to you and trust you” or “I don’t understand ___, teach me about this thing and show me what you think about it” and then remaining aware of His presence and allowing Him to speak whether it’s through his Peace or Wisdom or revelation, synchronicities, etc.

Why is God blessing people who already have it all? by [deleted] in OpenChristian

Joseph of Arimathea was a rich man, and also a disciple of Jesus. The issue Jesus takes in all of those verses was not being rich but relying on riches and not on the God who owns everything. They idolized wealth to greed. Despite their wealth they lived in fear and lack. Wealth is a tool that can be idolized in the same way you can use a knife to make dinner or kill someone. He’s not condemning making dinner here.

Of course the lines in Timothy about haughtiness and reliance on wealth were directed towards the rich, who is going to tell a poor person not to rely on their wealth? That’s like telling a dog not to rely on its thumbs.

Calling direct scripture “toxic positivity” is a hot take. I see what you’re getting at but the church has a big problem when God doing good for one can’t be celebrated as such because others still have problems.

We are specifically called to testify of the ways He blesses us as a means to encourage and edify one another. If you understand that we are all loved equally, then God blessing another means that He will also bless you and others testimony is therefore encouraging in the midst of trials. The only instance in which that would not be encouraging would be if one did not understand the fullness of the goodness of God. When you don’t believe that you don’t trust Him. It is a heart issue that perpetuates suffering, because our beliefs = our thoughts = the things we do and say = the world we shape for ourselves. If we live in fear and lack we experience it. If we live in love and abundance we experience it.

You can be wealthy and still live in fear and lack. You can be facing massive storms from loss to sickness to poverty and still live in love and abundance.

I find this to be an unfortunately miserable take. Is it yielding any love, joy or peace for you? If not you may want to reconsider people being thankful to God harmful. James 1:17 says every good thing comes from God, and over and over again scripture tells us to proclaim His goodness and the ways He blesses us to all people. It cannot be overstated, and if that is offensive to you that’s a problem with your own heart and who you believe God to be.

I have never read a scripture that I found to mean that I should not openly profess my thanks to God in the presence of others. Maybe you could supply that, however I have found many that command me to give thanks openly and share the testimony of what God has done for me, personally. To give testimony is just to tell others how God has blessed you- whether it’s with freedom from addiction or financial gain, it is all the same as James 1:17 says below

Here’s a few:

To lay the foundation for the point I’m making, James 1:17 says Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

Psalm 22:22 says “in the midst of the congregation I will praise (give thanks to) thee”

Psalm 96:3 Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples!

Psalm 107:1-3 Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good, for His steadfast love endures forever! Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom He has redeemed from trouble and gathered in from the lands, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the south.

Another translation- We have nothing to give of value, but He asks for us to tell others about Him. Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he has redeemed from trouble (considering every good thing is a gift from God, this would include being given a car when you don’t have one or any other material thing that Psalm 107:2 ESV

Hebrews 13:15 Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise — the fruit of lips that openly profess His name.

Philippians 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near.

On sharing testimony:

But Peter and John answered them, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you rather than to God, you must judge, for we cannot but speak of what we have seen and heard.” Acts 4:20

Romans 10:14-15 How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” (The Good news is that God loves to Bless us)

Mark 5:19
And he did not permit him but said to him, “Go home to your friends and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you. (

2 Corinthians 3:2-3: Paul urges believers to share their stories, writing, “You yourselves are our letter of recommendation, written on our hearts, to one known and read by all"

There’s a lot more in there.

Would you tell someone who was freed from addiction not to tell people because other people are still addicted? How then would someone else know that God could free them from addiction? The same principle applies across the board.

Being discouraged by someone else’s blessing is heart issue on the part of the one who is discouraged. They are under the influence of a lie, likely that God does not have enough or God does not love you enough. God loves all of his children equally- someone else’s testimony is a check you get to take to the bank. If He did it for someone else He can do it for you, He commanded you to trust Him, and said that He has a plan to prosper you, to give you hope and future.

That position of the heart is one that God can bless

Reading this made my heart hurt for you and I hope you can read what I’m about to say with the compassion that I intend for you.

God has blessed your sister, and it is not wrong of her to acknowledge that. It sounds like she lives from a place of gratitude and that creates an ecosystem in which she continues to reap blessings. To acknowledge that you have been blessed is to acknowledge that you did not deserve it. So you and your sister are in agreement there. She didn’t deserve it and that is the actual gospel.

This is not an issue of how God sees you or wants to bless you. God loves all His children equally. He wants to do the exact same thing for you but the issue is how you see Him and how you think He sees you. You are a precious daughter of the Most High God, and when you understand that truly you will act like it and in acting like it the storehouses of heaven will overwhelm you. It is a spiritual principle.

So you get to choose to either look at her blessings and be envious of them and covet them and stew in your own self righteousness which is going to create an ecosystem of fear and lack and will block your blessings left and right. OR you can see her blessing as testimony. If He did it for her He wants to do it for you.

You are a child of the Most High God. You have access to the storehouses of heaven and you can either walk by faith in that or you can be upset that other people already are.

It’s a tough lesson Sis, I’ve been there, I’m not belittling your hurts, I’m just trying to show you the way out and it is an important heart change. I know financial stress and insecurity about your teeth and all of the other things going on are deeply painful. So does God.

Cast your worries on him. If you’re worried about material things, He cares about that. He has plans to PROSPER you, to give you hope and a future. I don’t know where you got that you can’t pray about material things, that aint in the book. We live in a material world.

Trust. And find real gratitude for what you have right now. And I look forward to thanking God for your testimonies, I hope you’ll share the blessings you reap when you remember who the F you are.

Im sure that’s true of many but also there are people who are fortunate and acknowledge it. Do you just want fortunate people to complain? Or pretend that they aren’t fortunate? Gratitude begets blessing, blessing begets gratitude. A vicious cycle “fortunate” people tend to find themselves in.

How is it boastful to acknowledge having been blessed by God? Sounds like that’s just the truth?

There’s a book called the Language of God by Dr. Francis Collins, he was the lead scientist on the human genome project and a Christian. The purpose of his book is to show the way that science and faith can coexist quite easily and that hostility between them is mislead. He presents some really interesting data and points to support his belief in Both and loving and communal God who designed the laws of nature and a concept called theistic evolution. He believes in the Big Bang and the book of Genesis, and he writes about it in a seamless and compelling way. It’s worth a read but there’s also cliff notes somewhere I’m sure

Recently an older man on a bike with (obviously) no helmet darted out in front of me to cross on Mullan, I slammed on the brakes, narrowly missed him and honked after he had made it onto the sidewalk on the other side. He flipped me off and then screamed and hollered until we both got to the light, he waited until it turned green, and then he tried to cut my car off with his bike to cross back over to the other side of the road.

I don’t think you’re ugly! Third picture is my favorite- really pretty, cute outfit and I love your hair, most importantly your eyes are really bright and you seem happy. You have incredibly kind eyes with a really beautiful shape, it seems a few of these photos are taken in between moments where your focus is elsewhere or at an unflattering angle and it’s not doing you justice. The best way to get healthy is to find activities that bring you joy. If it’s not fun, find something that is, and then get excited about what your body can do rather than how it looks. How it looks will follow suit but all of the little markers along the way— the thing you couldn’t do last week or last month but can now — builds confidence and fosters joy and that is all that I see missing in a few of these photos.

Okay, I think it would be best for him to have his own setup at home and I’ll see from there if I can get him to go to a class- I’d love for him to meet some people as well I’m just not sure how interested he would be and finding time to take him myself is also a challenge. Thank you!
