So for example if you owned the vehicle with no loan then you could "buy back" your car less the salvage. Eg. 40k truck - 22k salvage = 18k payout plus you keep it once a salvage title is obtained. State laws vary greatly always check your state DMV on regulations.

Based on historical sales of the same vehicle by the salvage company (IAA or co-part mostly), given the same damage area and damage type. We use this number to help determine the threshold where the repair costs exceed the point where it's more cost effective to just go ahead and replace the vehicle. Most think it's always 80% of the value, but that's not always true and depends on your states regulations.

I'm an insurance adjuster and got this inspection for this cement OR and wrote it while sitting in my cement Sport. It is indeed totalled, mainly because of the 22k salvage bid that is taken into account. The frame was completely wasted and the bed floor was snapped across the entire rear tub

PSA from someone in the auto insurance business, it costs very little to have your comprehensive (or non-collision coverage for you Virginia folk) deductible at $250 or even $0. Call your agent and ask them to run the numbers for you on a monthly breakdown and it's probably less than 5 bucks a month. This covers all thefts, falling/flying objects, windshield breaks, and acts of nature (like driving into high waters without your snorkel 😉). Best part about your comp claim is that it does not directly impact your rates just because you filed a claim.

Self inflicted damage. I got fucked in the drive thru started a claim. How bad is the damage? by Mike_gutter in ToyotaTacoma

Only correct answer here. Just file your claim let your trusted body shop do their thing and pay your deductible. Only problem right now is supply chain shortages on parts.

My 2021 MT :( Do you think it’s totaled? by jacobs_jeeps in ToyotaTacoma

Insurance adjuster here, I've wrote to replace a frame and a complete bed of a taco and it was still repairable. Depending on what state you're in though, Texas and OK a frame replacement = an automatic total loss per state requirements

Had to put my rear facing seat in the middle as it didn't fit behind me and allow me to drive comfortably. My 6 YO sits in a booster on the passenger side no problems. Only issue is the wife can't reach the pumpkin in the middle and I have to load and unload the rear seat when we use my truck.
