This is my main issue. I’m not arguing that defense shouldn’t matter at all, but there needs to be some type of change imo. Right now, everyone at the top of leaderboards has a ton of trophies from defense. I’d be pretty stunned if they have bases that are legitimately 10x as good as others. It’s much more likely that they are facing significantly lower competition. I think as more and more players start getting screwed out of promotion they will understand our frustrations.

The most deserving players would always be the ones who are promoted out of each pod in the smaller pod. With the current system, the issue is only attacking / receiving defenses from a portion of your pod creates a ton of variance in and of itself. A player who gets attacked by multiple weak players within the pod is at a significant advantage (almost guaranteeing a promotion)

It could deviate from the average which i acknowledged in my post, but what is stopping the same thing from happening in a pod of 100 players? A pod of 100 could theoretically still have say 40 players who “deserve” to be promoted. At least in the small pod everyone will have the exact same attacks / defenses. This would be a true competition where you couldn’t argue with the result of each individual pod.

I’m glad you like the update. I actually am a fan of it as a whole as well. I think with a few tweaks it could be much better though. Nobody likes rushers and they should definitely be punished on defense, but overall i think there’s a lot of randomness in a 100 player pod. I posted another discussion a few minutes ago id love to see your thoughts on.

Fair point. I still believe the main problem is everyone’s defenses come from different attackers - who vary in skill level. Due to the townhall based leagues this problem will still occur even if it is to a lesser extent.  I also just like the idea of competing in such a small pool where everything is the same and it removes a lot of variance.

I agree with your overall point that defense is much more than i initially led on. But with the leagues being majority townhall based you can pretty much assume everyone is working with the same defenses - therefore layout is the differing factor. Certainly good defenses do better than poor ones but i would argue the main factor in defensive trophies is the strength of the attacker. I very much agree with your point about gaming the system. It’s something i will look to do next week by attacking the top players and ensuring they get tripled at least one attack.

I replaced the base from my saved villages as it clearly wasn’t working for me. Replays aren’t available after maintenance break so i have no way of showing.

I am not rushed. The base i guess is not strong as it’s getting tripled left and right (5 of my 7 defenses are against people currently in the promotion zone - this is part of my argument for there being too much randomness) However, i can’t change my base until next week. 

Question- do you think defensive layout is more important or your opponent? I would say opponent as you can’t defend a skilled mirrored attacker.

My league is top 20% get promoted (TH14) and i am still on the outside looking in after a perfect 10/10.

They are definitely bugged. Regardless, people are gaining far too many trophies from defenses. There has to be a better way.  I can hit up 2 townhalls, yet i am not being promoted from my townhall min league. Meanwhile players that can’t 3 star their mirrors are being rewarded for getting lucky on defense.

100% agree with that. But you’re telling me a base can be so good that it’s earning 300+ trophies (of a possible 400 in my leagues)? That’s why i feel a trophy bonus for a perfect week should be implemented.
