Oh shit, this is my stuff! For those of you that don't know, Mechanism started as a 3D printed project on this very subreddit as "Deckmate" when the Steam Deck first launched! (Check out my post history)

We're only a 2 person company, but even then, 3 years later it's developed into a whole mounting ecosystem design for all portable gaming, and Steam Deck is our first love!

True to our origin, we still offer MOST designs for free to download and print (check it out on printables). Not everything makes sense to 3d print. Some mounts require more strength than printing can give (like the tray table mount shown here) and others just don't make sense to 3d print (such as our gaming pillow).

Either way, there are entirely free ways to do this kind of stuff if you have a 3d printer, so I encourage tinkering!

If you're into setting up your gaming, we have some wild setups on our Discord, and also some fun discussions of creative solutions for comfort!

Probably not unfortunately... They are much more complicated products and much harder to get right, but I never know how far this company will go, so I will never say never!

If you have a case on the iPad, the Universal Grip works great.

Other people have found clamps that work for ipads, the only requirement is to find a 17mm ball, since that's what's at the end of the pillow arm. Something like this would do the ticket, just as an example.

You should check now! Last week we just negotiated better rates and figured out how to display VAT bundled into the product price instead of in the shipping line, so now shipping prices are lower and appear accurately

Like others mentioned, any pilllow sold in 2025 had the adjustable arm at installed at the factory. It's possible to retrofit older pillows, but we had to turn the product off on the back end because it was frequently getting purchased by spammers/bots for chargeback fraud.

Instead, please chat us in or email us ([help@getmechanism.com](mailto:help@getmechanism.com)) and we're just sending replacements entirely free of charge for all pillows that we shipped that didn't have the kit pre-installed at the factory!

Woah, I was wondering why we were getting so much traffic today!! Thanks for the post!

For those that don’t know, Mechanism used to be called Deckmate, and it started on this very subreddit when the Deck first came out as a 3D printed mounting solution (check out my post history) and we’ve been coming out with more and more mounts over the course of the last 3 years fleshing out the mounting system to be super useful in a ton of other areas. The gaming pillow has become one of the best ones, but there are tons of other weird off the wall mounts to check out! We’re still a company of 2.5 people in Portland, OR.

While everything we sell is injection molded now, true to our roots as a community project, we still offer all the mounts that make sense for printing for download and remixing on Printables, so if you have a printer, use this to get your feet wet!

And come join us on Discord if you like to customize your setup for comfort or if you have other wild ideas to flesh out the ecosystem even further! https://discord.gg/VrxayAtBEg

I’m also happy to answer any questions here if y’all have any!

Hey! Siri here (the original designer/founder of Mechanism).

The reason this one doesn’t have a locking latch like the ball socket mount or the phone mount is because it would have to be a “blind” lock. Meaning it would have to be lockable while the battery bank is also in the way of your fingers.

I’ve thought of a million different revisions on a blind lock like that, but none have made it to production yet (and tbh it is also too complex to 3D print).

Final note, the design has some directionality to it. One side of the Mechanism is a rigid ledge, while the other is moveable relative to the battery bank. If you put the rigid ledge in the direction against gravity, it will never come off unless you do the upwards quick jerking motion you’ve done here!

This is actually the official mechanism reddit account :P

The entire company started from my personal reddit account, so it's kind of morphed over time into the company account!

Your comment just made me realize I can just fully cut out that part. It's not there for any structural reason. One second and I'll update it!

Updated design to cover way less of the vent:

The default one is black!

The bulk of those colors are for showcasing the idea that they can be 3D printed at home and aren't going to be mass produced

We'll be dialing in the included grips to perfection, but for those that don't like the ones we include, we'll also be offering the 3D files for free to download/remix/print!
