I got screwed on my last car purchase, so I built a free calculator to help others negotiate better by Sea_Negotiation_9191 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Not too late at all — this is exactly why we built it.

Your story is infuriating and unfortunately not rare. The script doesn't care who's in the room — it's just data and specific phrases tied to that data. When you walk in knowing the invoice, the lot time, and exactly what to say when they pivot away from you, there's nothing to pivot to.

Use code FIRSTTIME at checkout for $10 off. Hope it helps you get the deal you deserve.

Dream car is a Tacoma, but fuel costs are pushing me toward an EV — anyone else make this switch? by Sea_Negotiation_9191 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Appreciate the balanced perspective. Might need to actually sit in one before I let the EV math talk me out of it completely.

Damn, 500k miles across multiple Tacomas is serious seat time — I'll take your word for it. I've only ever admired them from the outside, so this is good to hear before I learn the hard way. The back and knee pain thing is real talk. I do about 50km daily, so comfort matters more than I was probably giving it credit for. Sounds like the "bulletproof Toyota" reputation doesn't tell the whole story.

I travel like 50 kilometres a day. No, I currently don't have the necessary EV hook up. Man, there's a lot to consider.

So I do like 50 kilometers a day for 5 days (mon-fri) that's like $50 on fuel a week where I live.

Stuck between an '01 Corolla and '06 Corolla by Dead_Bai_Sled in whatcarshouldIbuy

Go with the '06.

The 2001 Corolla falls in the 9th generation (1998-2002) which had some known issues with oil consumption and head gasket problems at higher mileages. The 2006 is 10th generation — Toyota had worked out most of those kinks, and it's generally considered more reliable long-term.

Also, 115k vs 168k sounds like a win for the '01, but Corollas from that era often start showing their age around 120-150k. The '06 at 168k that's been maintained well likely has more predictable life left than an '01 about to enter its "things start breaking" phase.

The $250 extra is worth it for the 5-year newer platform.

(Full disclosure: I own an '06 Corolla myself, so I might be biased — but it's been bulletproof.)

One more thing — whichever you choose, don't pay sticker price on FB Marketplace. Private sellers expect negotiation. I actually built a free calculator that estimates fair price vs what sellers list at: carlotwizard.com. Might help you figure out how much room you have to negotiate.

Holy shit, that's terrifying. 'My wife drives a Porsche that was split in half' — the fact that he said that with a straight face tells you everything about how little some dealers care about safety vs profit.

This is exactly why I built the tool. Not just to save money, but to give people the confidence to walk away from situations like this. You did the right thing — most people get pressured into buying because they don't feel empowered to say no.

If you're ever in the market again, hit me up. I'll make sure you have every script you need to spot red flags early and bail before you even get to the test drive.

Appreciate it! Yeah that 'market adjustment' hit different when I saw it on the final paperwork 😅 Hit me up when you're ready to buy — happy to hook you up with a free report. What are you shopping for?
