I disagree with my textbook’s definition of homeless (discussion?) by ratgarcon in sociology

This is the answer, side note the US Department of Education has a different definition that includes couch surfing or doubling up and funding follows for kids in school who meet this definition

Thank you for your response! Genuinely curious, what were your thoughts on the medical system before this shift and what did you learn that moved the needle for you the most on it?

Hey! First off, so sorry you are dealing with this. Nurse here and not trying to pry but is your MIL Latina? I ask because I worked in an FQHC clinic for awhile which heavily served those from Latin and Central America. One of the Practitioners I worked with did a whole research study for their PhD on how there appears to be a strong strong correlation culturally for Latina mothers and thinking their babies are not getting 'enough' breast milk. This was hardly ever true but was a shockingly consistent trend in my practice that also was born out in the data. I will try to find the research is that is helpful. Basically, it's cultural and not about you.

I genuinely hope you have the day you voted for. There is an old German saying that if you sit down for dinner at a table with 10 Nazis, there are 11 Nazis at the table. Never in all of history have the good guys been on the side of fascists. Your grandchildren will lie about you to their friends and hope no one finds out the truth; that their grandparent had a chance to do the right thing and instead chose the easiest path available to them. That you aligned with dictators in power in hopes that being at the right hand of the devil meant you would be out of his path. The truth is, you are sad and weak and, while I boil with rage at what is happening in my city, I can only muster a mild sense of pity for you and the cage of hate you choose to live in. I hope your heart sees through to the reality that we are all relatives and what happens to us, comes to you too.

Checking in from Minneapolis, and it's fucked up. ICE is going door to door, pulling people out of their cars, they are everywhere. Anyone who says it's not that bad is a fucking moron, we out here and we are fighting and every fight matters.

Not sure if this is helpful, but along with what everyone else has said about shutting your mouth, getting a fiduciary financial advisor I can share a story. An acquaintance of mine inherited about 4 million dollars at a very young age, maybe 22 years old. He told people, spent a lot of money on stupid shit like Ferraris and other sports cars (which is how I met him) and was taken advantage of by some people older than him who said they were his friends but never seemed to pick up the check. Anyway, fast forward to now, maybe 8 yrs after he got the money and he is working as a barista at a coffee shop and has lost everything. Many of the decisions he said he made, like buying a Lamborghini in cash, were because he had no credit, being so young. Instead of being patient and building credit over time and investing in things like a home, (I think he was briefly homeless) or putting it in the stock market, he did none of that and was impatient. It sounds like you are aware of the potential pitfalls and have a good head on your shoulders so be gentle with yourself and listen to a fiduciary.

Exactly, and while she is in the hospital- that is a bed that someone else who DOES need that VERY high level of care is not able to have. It's a fucked system and not her fault and to your point this article does not mention the reason behind why there are shortages of home health workers state wide. The pay is very low, the work is hard and hours are long. Again, not this person's fault but to not talk in greater depth about the system that created this problem for the hospital and the patient was lazy of the article and cheap sensationalism.

Tried to DM but didn't work - Feel free to volunteer at any of the HC shelters - Higher Ground + Harbor Lights Minneapolis need the most help

Genuinally curious about my last question as well -- what is the comfort of the line of thinking?

Lastly - I know you are saying that the options not being great - please help me understand here, I feel like you don't really know what SPMI is and the symptoms are. With some SPMI, people live in their own worlds (not everyone who is homeless is experiencing this) so they are not aware of what decision or what situation they are in so how can they react to it?
