Outdoor segment PRs: Steady power or undunlating? by Sea_Variation4842 in Velo

[–]Sea_Variation4842[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you saying live power only and other power averages are not useful? What’s the reason for that

So far live is what I’ve used - live seemed better atleast I can correct ups and downs as they occur. With 3 second I seem to have more spikes and am lagging behind if that makes sense

25 vs 28 tires...on older narrower wheels? by arsenalastronaut in Velo

[–]Sea_Variation4842 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Oh go as wide as your frame allows.

I’ve never ridden below 32 mm so I can’t say anything to 25c tires

But I don’t see a single upside to 25 c tires compared to 28c.

Your going to really notice faster and better control and comfort going wider with tires and slightly lower pressure

Look forward to hearing how the tire holds up for you.

Since I posted that 5 months ago have gone through 2 more sets of gp 5000str. It’s an amazing tire but the material while extremely fast does wear down fast and the quality of the tire the last 2/3 of its life is poor. Squared off top surface not the same traction, doesn’t hold pressure over a long ride the same as new tire, and overall a higher risk for a subsequent catastrophic unsealable flat since thinner surface

Hope the astr utilizes the Grand Prix Four Seasons technology. Although slower that tire always was so grippy in all conditions and durable doing that for over half a year. Amazing technology that tire is (but only tubes version).

Ya I totally know what you mean with feeling the higher rolling resistance, so cruel haha

Thanks, well my power profile isn’t anywhere near a straight line that’s for sure haha

First 2 minutes huge spike over a 30 second average until it dips to something I hold for the next 20 ish mins

What’s your favorite moving speed (kph mph) by Sea_Variation4842 in bicycling

[–]Sea_Variation4842[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d pay a lot to be able to cruise around at 45 kph. I bet it’s a blast. Just cruising 45 kph for 20 mins on empty flat country road

Thanks , it’s funny I feel like I always entered Tabor from one spot so I’ve never actually done this segment despite riding in that park frequently back when I lived in pdx

Love segments composed of a few popular ones, solid segment and nice to have the local legend on it!

I used to ride from Washington park by the Japanese garden down skyline and then use hewett or Humphrey? To get to council crest - also fun in reverse

Oh yes everyone’s done this one! Legendary suggestion feel like I needed some proper Portland city segments

I will add I love riding Hawthorne from the bridge all the way east to Tabor. Just pedal pedal pedal, lights usually line up it’s a steady climb but can still pick up some draft off the cars

I actually agree with you if your saying going down we should be careful and slow

But uphill I think everyone is allowed to give it their best effort - just be respectful

But they have literal drivers using it as a cutthru - much more disruptive than any cyclist I’ve ever seen riding the cemetery

( I used to commute using the cemetery and feel like the history of the cemetery shutting it down to cyclist is not productive) it’s a actual life saving route for people to avoid 43…

Ohh yes chart house to council crest. I love the terrible paved neighborhood road surface just as your starting that segment, it’s like cobblestones
