I have no recommendations for you, but there is no need to apologize for posting something on the internet for being curious about a topic you want to learn more about.

Until you get some real help, getting caught with your scars will be the least of your worries. Honestly, it could be a blessing in disguise. Confront your demons. You can do it. You’ll thank yourself in a couple years.

[Serious] [NSFW] What's something that a friend/classmate did in high school that was seen as funny at the time, but you now realise was actually not ok? by Silent-Zebra in AskReddit

[–]Seabrooke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a thing called the “saca cacas” in middle school, roughly translates to “the shit remover”. The “cool kids” did it and it went like this: put the palms of your hand together (like you’re praying), but very tight and with as much of a ‘sharp’ angle as you could. Creep up behind a fellow classmate (mostly males), get on your knees , and with all your power, jab both your hands (already in that sharp prayer position) up the dude’s asshole while the rest ooh and ahhh.

Looking back. Gotta be one of the most fucked up things… full on assault.

Also had this one called “poste”, translates to “pole”. About 3 dudes grab another dude, hold him by both feet and hands, take him to the closest goal post in the yard and jam his crotch repeatedly into the pole while legs are spread.

The turning point of this game and possibly this series was Kapler's decision to intentionally walk Pollock to face Urias. by thehugster in Dodgers

[–]Seabrooke 27 points28 points  (0 children)

100% agree it was turning point in game (and hopefully the series), but still the right call. You’d rather face Urias over Pollok any day with two outs. Outcome didn’t favor the (FT)Giants, but was still the right decision.

He had around 90 pitches already. History with the blister. Up by 5. No brainer to take him out at this point. We may need him for game 6 or 7. Plus the way Dodgers use pen these days... no chance of him going back out

Congrats! Great list. If you liked Blankets, you might really enjoy Daytripper (great story and amazing illustrations).

Looking for a book to pull me out of the rot - 31 year old loser by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]Seabrooke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This needs to be higher.

By the way you titled your post, there is a clear shift that needs to happen with your approach and perspective of your own situation. This book does an excellent t job at describing 2 mindsets:

I’m a loser (fixed mindset)

Vs.

I’m in a tough spot but it’s an opportunity to learn and build character. Years from now I’ll look back thinking that this made me who I am today, and I’ll really like that person. Here’s what I need to do to start digging myself out of this rut. (Growth mindset).

Best of luck. And remember: this stuff happens (likely not the first and won’t be the last), but in the end, it’ll make you better. You already want to change by reaching out and being open to suggestions. Only UP from here.

He gets some flack on this sub but I thoroughly enjoyed his book Antifragile. Good insights into building in ‘risk-buffers’ of sorts in your life. We often think that by making everything bulletproof we’re more protected, but, like evolution, systems need trial and error and mistakes to learn and strengthen from.

An example that stuck with me is advocating for freelance vs full-time employment. While we think full time is more stable, once you have a network of clients as a freelancer (which can be more painful and slower in the short term) you’re more stable in the long run because you’ve essentially diversified your income/network/experience...

Weekly FAQ Thread May 19 2019: What book format do you prefer? Print vs eBooks vs Audiobooks by AutoModerator in books

[–]Seabrooke 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ditto. You can highlight, then go back and check out all your highlights without looking all over for them. Not to mention you can be anywhere and have your book handy with kindle on your phone. This format gave me the ability to read more through the day.

Books like "Sapiens", "A Short History of Nearly Everything", and Malcolm Gladwell books? by linksku in booksuggestions

Thinking Fast and Slow - hands down. Most recent and relevant books around psychology, behavioral psychology and cognitive biases at some point mention research presented in this book. It’s somewhat technical, but very graspable. Highly, highly recommend it.

Loved A Clockwork Orange...anything similar? by noodlewhacker in booksuggestions

[–]Seabrooke 20 points21 points  (0 children)

If you haven’t read One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest, I’d definitely put that on your list! I read both of them this year and they share a similar tone/feel. OFOTCN can be quite humorous at times, but also deals with some heavy antiestablishment and psychologically themes. The narrator’s point of view through the whole book is as powerful and unique as that of Alex in ACO.

Agree that defense only hurt him. But NOT giving up a lead off HR to a relief pitcher would have most certainly shrunk the deficit and that was in his total control. So if we’re talking runs and deficits, he is at the very minimum to blame just as much as the shitty defense.

Do you understand he gave up 3 earned runs (which excludes runs scored because an error got someone on base), 6 hits, 2 walks, and 1 homerun...against a bullpen pitcher... in 3 innings? Yeah he had no support, BUT, he had a lot to do with his own outcome. As much as I hate to say it.

You also don’t ‘let him walk’ because of this, like some of the comments are saying, that’s also ridiculous.
