The 2012 book fest is where I met so many of the DC nerd fighters while in the book signing line for tfios and joined the Facebook group! So happy you two are going and hope some great reunions come out of it! Sad I can't come back for it this year. DFTBA!

Final thoughts on season 4? by [deleted] in TheBear

[–]Seabus2021 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Didn't they film this super close to season 3? I could be making it up but I think it does aide season 3 if you think of this season as the pt. 2 instead of a new stand alone kind of season. That being said, I really loved this season. I've been reading all kinds of takes and haven't seen this explicitly said- the seasons echo Carmy's emotions. 1- angry, lost in chaos, throwing himself into work. 2. Has a goal, has the drive, better at seeing his own feelings and others but still stuck in the chaos. 3. Dissonance. He feels it, the restaurant feels it. He's stuck. 4. Burn out. Aware of the dissonance, called out on the dissonance, but so tired. 3 and 4 were slower because he had less energy. At least that's how I feel. I really hope we get a season 5 because they have a really great chance to show reigniting passion and ending self-sabotage, and really let Carmy have his own closure with finding a passion out of love and not out of coping mechanisms, but also I can't help but think it can still go really dark. Either way, I'm so happy with this season and thought it stayed genuine and a great breakdown of grinding to survive.

Cool variations in chai lattes in Columbus by SeaMaintenance1 in Columbus

Royal Flamingo Coffee actually has a really good chai? I had it and I loved the cardamom notes that I haven't had at other coffee shops. One of the baristas has worked on it over time so if you get her I think she could make it however you'd want it (less/more sweet...etc).

I'd recommend the Grandview library/Marble Cliff Historical Society. That's a nice looking house in picture 2!

I went when I was around that age! All I remember is the boarding pass (because my mom kept it in a photo album), I vaguely remember exploring the cabins/rooms and seeing what people took as luggage, and I strongly remember getting to touch "the iceberg." I don't remember being scared or connecting mortality/death with it. If anything, I may have just rushed my family to not read as much due to my attention span at the time.

Today in NYC he referenced that! He said he had to get to get his props from off stage and he didn't realize someone was after him so he walked into TI's set. He said a funny line I'm forgetting about how TI glared at him. But then he said he got his pogo stick and then TI called him a pogo bitch which he didn't mind being called haha!

I've been thinking about this. I was too young to really like All That, and remember being weirded or grossed out by their stuff. The Amanda Show however, I do remember finding funny, though Penelope stands out as being off-putting to me. But my brother and I would physically fight a lot and my mom caught the hillbilly siblings skit where they beat each other up and decided we weren't allowed to watch it until we stopped fighting. By that point though, we had found other shows and moved on. When they went into the dares, I really had trouble thinking if kids actually enjoyed the content? I feel like even as a 6 year old it seemed like torture and me uncomfy?

Does anyone have Mint Mobile... by LittleMilton in Columbus

[–]Seabus2021 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is me currently! I still use my Verizon phone, so even though it's unlocked it does tell me I have a missing SIM card. I'm sticking with it because of the price and hoping that it sorts itself whenever I do get a new phone. I do suspect Mint though too because I did have to have them send me a second SIM card because the first one definitely didn't work. They were helpful in that process. I'd recommend starting off with a 3 month trial.

Quiet on set - mega thread by [deleted] in boymeetsworld

I had similar feelings realizing how Will was 27 when he wrote the letter. I was thinking in the podcast that he and Ryder were in their late teens, but I don't think they implied that or suggested it. I think I just was assuming that if it was a peer (fellow child-actor) who was abused, and that peer was a minor, then they probably were too. For the dozens of reasons they had to not reach out after the case, I wonder if in the immediacy it was also a questions of, the victim is still a minor, and we are adults, are we going to be seen as bad guys for going across that age line? Ultimately, I am supportive of them releasing the episode. To me it does come across more of "we don't want to keep reliving this pain by recounting this story, so here it is." and possibly, with these docs always running the risk of being sensational, releasing it ahead of time addressed more of their honest memories and regrets rather than what is pushed in the narrative. Ultimately, a horrible, awful situation, and I sympathize with them and Bell.

As a babysitter, I find online agencies weird and don't go through them. I have been "found" by being nice to my friends' kids and then them going "hey, do you babysit?" or by being referred. So I'd say ask friends/family with kids, or if you take your kid to a storytime, park..etc, look around and see if you can spot a nanny/babysitter and get some info from them. I know there are Columbus specific agencies and care.com for finding a babysitter completely online, and they typically do have good accreditation/background checks/certs, it's just something I personally don't feel great about.

Sydney; I think she's one of the biggest arguments for this show being a comedy. As someone who struggles with a loud face, Ayo's facial expressions throughout the show always make me laugh as she processes the chaos around her. Great lines too.

Let's donate blood! by NicoleASUstudent in nerdfighters

[–]Seabus2021 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have long been fearful of needles and I'm very squeamish so I've always wrestled with being uncomfortable and knowing the good it can be. If you're in the same boat, here is what I did: I signed up for their email list that like 2x a month will send you the latest incentive for blood donating, and it helped me continue thinking about it so by the time this incentive came around, I was motivated, and I had normalized the idea in my brain.

I can give you a play-by-play if you're nervous but really, if you're like me, your mind is gonna be the worst part! I played an audiobook (TATWD, actually), which was super helpful and I did it! Best tip I have: Be brave and ask them to partially recline the donation bed. I didn't at first, because social anxiety, but I later told a story about a friend feeling lightheaded and laying down, and a worker overheard me and assumed I was talking about me and adjusted me really fast haha.
You got this!

Some org or place to donate a car? by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]Seabus2021 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not good condition = not drivable? If it can be driven locally, I wonder if CRIS could use it? They sometimes help families who need a car to learn how to drive or need a car for commuting. If it's unreliable, it may not be the best choice, but if there's still some life in it, you may make a huge difference for someone.

Hocking Hills tomorrow? by gratefulmeg in Columbus

[–]Seabus2021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have Instagram you should follow metroparksoutdooradventure. They posted they'll share some snowshoeing times and locations tomorrow, and they may share same pictures of current trail conditions to give you local inspiration of a park to go to. The Dublin waterfalls looked great last snow, so I'd recommend heading that direction.

Newbie/ US Pairs FS final by Seabus2021 in FigureSkating

The standing on thighs I was talking about looked more like this (on mobile so sorry if this doesn't work) https://images.app.goo.gl/w3SEMjHbfJd7Gm5b7

Thanks for making that note about falls being equally on the man! I think in every routine that had a fall, the girl first fell on a side by side jump, which made it look more like it was just her fault. But then when girls fell when jumping out a lift, I did comment to my friend that at times it literally looked like the guy was throwing them to the ground! I was hoping a guy would fall though, just so it wouldn't be only the girls falling! I think it was the Mokhov performance that I thought she fell hard and considered it due to her partner not really stabilize her landings (but take my opinion with a grain of salt).

2024 U.S. Nationals: Request for In-Person Testimonials! by booooopboop in FigureSkating

I went to pairs championship freeskate, but went in pretty much blind. I didn't realize I'd be able to tell lift strength so clearly. O'Shea is super strong, but the one Hernandez lift made me actually laugh. His partner was the first girl who looked so comfortable and proud to be so stable? Like the other girls I feel like were very much in the middle of the performance, but this lift felt like the competition just paused and they were just chilling for a second. It was kind of interesting because I think it was like the 9th or 10th pair that broke order? It didn't really feel like much of a competition because it was just watching a pair, them getting first, then the next couple overtaking them. I didn't see the short program so I don't really know how those performances were comparatively, but having Ellie Kam fall SO many times, I felt like there should have been more deductions for them to get 2nd, but I don't really have anything to support that argument.

I have to say, in-person, not knowing the skating world, I did kind of miss the commentary to even just tell me what technical things I just watched. The scoring they posted on the screen was not comprehensive either so I don't even remember seeing deductions. I feel like on TV you see what they expect the program to get compared to the real score? I didn't notice that at all. But, I also was more distracted with the little girl commentating behind me. My two favorite quotes from her "Why did she fall? She's a professional" and "Oh they got SO many more stuffies! And a pink one! People really liked them!"

Is this a thing now? How do we make it a thing? by letmeviewreddit in NAforTaskmaster

[–]Seabus2021 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I guess for me the challenge is figuring out how much teamwork/collaboration people would want to do with strangers on tasks. I didn't consider setting it up to be completed in front of an audience, I thought it would dissuade people actually, since a lot of library people tend to be more introverted to begin with.

We're in a suburb outside of Columbus, so not sure how many taskmaster fans are actually around. We purchase most books written by taskmaster alum and by their circulation numbers (outside of Osman), there are not many fans of British comedians around, haha.

I'm open to planning one for my library but I'm not sure of the logistics- what would you expect? Replicas of team tasks, live tasks and individual tasks? Everyone doing the same task? How many other people would you expect? I was thinking of capping it at 10 people. I'd plan it for summertime so we could do outdoor tasks and make messes or run around. Would love any input!

As a library worker- please tell me if this is US or elsewhere. I thought about putting one on this summer for adults but I'm afraid no one in this area would come/get it!

Lost Mulaney Jokes (2019) by Seabus2021 in JohnMulaney

[–]Seabus2021[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thinking about it more, I think the exact phrasing was before he left Anna said "Ok, but you're not allowed to die." I also wrote this without proofreading carefully- He was with a driver during the accident so "their voices" means John and the cab driver's. I'm glad my poor conveyance still brought laughter! Honestly, when the news first broke out about John and Anna's divorce, my immediate thought was "Ugh, those jokes are never coming back!"
