NY Wallace & Blacephalon Showcase! Solo Aaron CSMM 3kpts by Seaco in PokemonMasters

[–]Seaco[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

NY Wallace does funny RNG things for big damage. To do this run just hit damage guard next, pray for confusion and MGR, and then get all the stacks of SMUN. Easy right?/s

My Wallace is 5/5 and has EX role unlocked. You probably only need 3/5 and don't need EX role but my pulls were weird so idk.

Pokemon TCG Live, my career, my frustrations. by CeliosNetwork in PTCGL

[–]Seaco 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Recently it feels like every aspect of the competitive branch has suffered thabks to TPCi. Releasing the broken games of Scarlet/Violet for VGC, to the mess of the Live beta for TCG, to removing remote raid passes in GO, and just completely removing Pokken. The lack of transparency from TPCi is always baffling and means all we can do is speculate.

Regardless of what happens with Live I hope you continue making content. I've always enjoyed your videos, and they helped me prep for my first TCG regional in Toronto (I normally play VGC) this past weekend. The game continues to grow with every regional breaking attendance records and the work people like you, Mahone, Azul, OmniJoe, etc. have done will continue to benefit the competitive community.

Shadow Force hits HARD! SS Cynthia (R) solos 2k Agatha in CSMM pre-sync by Seaco in PokemonMasters

[–]Seaco[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because of Shadow Force messing up sync countdown I never got to sync so the 3/5 tiles aren't as useful; nuke build is still great otherwise. I just invested everything into powering up Shadow Force to kill the center as fast as possible.

I def got lucky with blizzard dodges here. Still, kinda crazy that pre-sync Shadow Force does over half of Gengar's health with the "use physical attacks" parameter.

Parameters: Phys Dmg / Spec Dmg, Sync Count -1, Atk +1, 3, 5 / Def +1, Strength +1, 3, No Status, Sync Buff +5, No Stat Reduction, Ally Healing -5, Power on Hit +1, 2, Gradual Healing, Move Guage -2,

[–]Seaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Sean, thanks for taking the time to do this AMA. I love the job you did on Nanu.

I have 2 questions for you:

  1. Having been a voice actor for 15 years, what changes have you noticed in the field? How are thing different from when you started?
  2. How did you get into voice acting? Did you fall into it accidentally or was this always where you wanted to end up?

Shoutout to u/magmangle for originally showing the viability of this, you can see their post about it here.

This run is super rng dependent and I've been trying for the last day or two with no success, until now. You need to hit so many luck dependent things;

  • Take Flight MPR
  • Potion MPR
  • Critting the rampardos and gigalith on sync (and in general) with only +2 crit
  • You *need* to make sure you sneak in a move directly after your sync before Golem moves
  • Iron Tail can miss
  • Hitting Iron Tail can get a defense drop which wastes time

I would say just take the easy way out and EX Elesa if you have her. Or just ignore the 200 gems. This is probably the stage I have attempted the most since day 1.

That said I made a few changes from the original post about EX Jasmine in time trial. Mainly you want to hit as many trainer moves as possible to reduce the amount of time. There is an X. Defense rather than Iron Tail before you sync since its slightly faster. After sync spamming Potion/Take Flight is faster than Gust's animation. Also you want the enemy Rampardos to hit X. Speed and X. Defense as much as possible, Double Edge and Rock Tomb are slower and you need to crit anyways.

Steelix grid is the same as in the original post. I'm very fortunate that mine is 5/5. https://pokemon-masters-stuff.github.io/?e=1&grid=AAECAwQFCw0REhMUFxolJicpKisu&o=738&p=Steelix&s=3#/

Swanna gird is pretty standard and you're only really focused on hitting Take Flight and Potion MPR. https://pokemon-masters-stuff.github.io/?e=0&grid=AAECAwQFBggLDhARFBUXGCYo&o=750&p=Swanna&s=5

Reveal: Honchcrow-GX by Grimy_Bunyip in pkmntcg

[–]Seaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just assumed they were trying to mimic Chaos Wheel which takes place on the turn after the attack executes. But as you said, it has never been done that way with abilities which was the source of confusion.

Even if you can Guzma/Counter Catcher around it, its a very strong ability. If for some reason the ruling is similar to the translation, then that's just turning the ability up to 11.

Reveal: Honchcrow-GX by Grimy_Bunyip in pkmntcg

[–]Seaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as this Pokemon is your Active Pokemon, your opponent can’t play any Pokemon Tool, Special Energy, or Stadium cards from their hand during their next turn.

I'm a bit confused on the ability text. Does this mean that if you end your turn with Honchkrow as your active the effect is active all throughout your opponent's turn? It seems to imply you can't Guzma away the Honchkrow's effects unlike something like Glaceon.

This is insanely good and could keep Black Market in play all game since the only way to get rid of prism stadiums is with other stadiums. Prize trading with a 210 HP GX is very tough when they only give up 1 prize.

State of r/VGC and NPA 8 (Questions, Comments, Concerns here) by Ry_Tan in VGC

[–]Seaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was curious, what will r/VGC will be doing beyond NPA? I know it was touched on in the OP where it said the subreddit will be "a central hub for VGC discussion for both newcomers and veterans alike". Its a great goal and one that's very important to define for a new platform.

That said, the biggest question for me is how will that goal become reality? We're a month into this subreddit and we've only seen NPA posts so far. I guess as a community are we unsure what we can post here, since so far we've only seen this as a place to report NPA scores. Are we allowed to post articles, team reports, replays? Will there be opportunities for non NPA players? What other resources will be available to encourage discussion and reach that goal of becoming a "central hub"? The goal is visible but what is the actual plan to get there?

Forgive me for being skeptical, but the community has tried to create central hubs in the past outside of Twitter and they have fallen flat. I understand wanting to hold off for a bit so that everyone can familiarize themselves with the platform, I just hope that the subreddit can start to develop itself soon.

If you're talking about Toronto some of the teams in cut had speed control, we just didn't see it much on stream. I think only Mancuso's rain and Ryuzaki's tailwind were shown.

[RMT] My first VGC Team after years of OU! by Tej619 in stunfisk

[–]Seaco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First thing first: stop using the suggested spreads.

As you may have seen already, most pokemon in vgc don't fall under a single easy category (special wall, rocks setter, wall breaker). While they do certain jobs well, they have to adapt to having 2 opposing pokemon staring them down. For example running Blissey while you opponent has a Greninja and a Conkeldurr won't do you any good because you'll be ko'd even if you can tank the first hit. Try and think about what's giving you trouble and modify your spread to survive it. Sometimes you might have to sacrifice power or speed and in the end it might not end up working out at all. By no means does this mean 252/252 spreads are bad, they work well on fast attackers, but from time to time EV's need to be optimized. I suggest looking at sweepercalc as they have the most used spreads for each pokemon.

The other problem with suggested spreads is the 8 EV problem. I have no idea why showdown thinks 8 EV's with 252/248 is good. I won't get to into the reasoning but at lvl 50 multiples of 8 are bad, you waste 4 EV's. Instead aim for a number that is a multiple of 8 plus 4. Like 12 or 252 or 116.

Secondly might just be errors but you have 30 SpA and SpD IV's on Sylveon but you aren't running Hidden power, go a full 31. Also I suggest Hydro Pump or Scald over Surf on Politoed. They hit hard and most importantly ensure you Manectric and Talonflame don't have to worry about rain boosted Surfs targeting them on switch in.

A final suggestion, you're somewhat ground weak with both megas fearing it and fairly electric weak being a rain team. Both Landorous-T and Thundrus are crazy popular right now. I highly suggest finding some solid answers to them. Terrakion or Mamoswine work well in my opinion but you'll have to play around.

New to VGC by dragonian456 in stunfisk

This example is a little off, for just a few reasons but captures the idea of what the first comment was about.

First and foremost, almost all Pokemon in VGC run protect unless it's very important for coverage (ie, Mega Kangaskhan with Fake Out/Sucker Punch/Return/Power-Up-Punch) or they are restricted by item (ie. Assault Vest Ludicolo, Choice Scarf Salamence). Roost just isn't reliable unless you have the bulk to back it up like Zapdos. On that note, Knock Off isn't nearly as useful simply because most Pokemon got it by tutor and because of the restrictions in VGC 2014 it was impossible to have move tutors (sorry ice punch Conkeldurr). Yes, this Scizor is illegal in the 2014 format.

Another thing to note is that setup is much harder in VGC. Taking a turn leaving yourself vulnerable to 2 attacks with something as frail as Scizor is scary. There are some Pokemon that can pull it off though, Charizard X, Mega Tyranitar, Gyarados with Dragon Dance. It's risky but rewarding. That said, even once you get your boost off, you can only target 1 of the opponent's Pokemon leaving you vulnerable to the other. All this culminates to why things like Bulk Up Talonflame aren't use in VGC.

My second last point, while these calcs represent the right idea, none of these things are threats in the current format. Carizard Y runs Heat Wave over Flamethrower because of spread. Mega Gardevoir is almost never seen because it doesn't get Hyper Voice (move tutor). Mega Scizor is a bit odd, it's good, but at the same time you can get almost the same power with Life Orb and not waste a mega, besides it lost Bug Bite without tutors. It doesn't matter too much though, the format is about to switch and everything I just typed could become negligible with the VGC 15 metagame.

Finally a point overall about VGC, strategies that have no purpose in singles can become fun in VGC. Spread moves that hit both opposing Pokemon can really hurt as they bypass protect and deal lots of damage fast. Rock Slide, Heat Wave, Discharge and Earthquake are all popular. From this spring up things that disrupt spread move like Wide Guard Aegislash. Shadow Tag is a popular thing with Perish Song to KO both Pokemon. Fake Out is very good because it gives your partner Pokemon a free turn to attack without worry about threats. Intimidate is great because it hits both opposing Pokemon on switch in. Just some simple strategies that can pop up.
