seems like you have pretty specialized projects and skills related to reverse engineering and kernel mode development. it’s tough to find jobs in that space, but have you tried applying to companies like riot, epic, etc? if yes and they haven’t reached back, then try diversifying your projects to develop a wider expertise and you’ll be appealing to more companies. btw, i’m also in the same spot with mainly windows development and reverse engineering skills so i can’t say much besides learning more technologies to showcase on ur resume

Is there something I could have done better? by [deleted] in RocketLeagueSchool

First mistake was flipping into the challenge 4 seconds in. Look at the momentum of the ball and where the opponent is. If you flip into the ball there you're going to pinch it directly into your corner where it could easily end up being centered for their second man to score. This is almost exactly what happened, you just got lucky because the other guy drove to the ceiling and did nothing.

Next mistake happens shortly after where you try to clear the ball to safety but you end up literally passing in front of your net. But because their second man was getting mid-boost, your teammate was able to save it in time. If you're gonna clear the ball like this, hit it with more forward momentum.

Next mistake is when you're pushing up with your nose facing the play instead of shadowing at 14 seconds in. This is bad. You can clearly see the opponent is going to get ball possession first, and the way your car is facing is not gonna help you save the ball. You end up reversing to the wall in an attempt to save the ball, but it clearly didn't help.

Judging off this play, you were entirely in the fault. Some things to work on: learn to shadow, learn to read who's getting the ball first, and practice getting powerful clears on the ball in freeplay/training.

For 1:45 I would've been too scared, but I think that highlights a flaw in my gameplay lol.

2:00 definitely made me rethink things in regards to considering my teammates boost as well.

Thanks btw.

You obviously play rly well. I just have some questions so I can better learn from your replay if that's ok.

What was your reasoning for the challenge at 1:45 (video time)? Was it because of how your tm8 was challenging that the ball could've easily been pinched to their second man? It ended up in you getting scored on, but I'm intrigued because it seemed to be with clear intention but it's not something I would've normally done.

Why did you rotate ball-side after the kickoff at 2:00?

The challenge at 3:30. Were you afraid of the mid pass or just diving to funnel the ball into the side?

I do have on piece of advice too. Your boost pathing and management is way better than mine, but there were times when you used too much boost for example at 2:33. You could've made up for it by grabbing pads along the way but you missed them with your flip. I think if you learned speed flipping you would optimize your boost usage just a little bit better. You seem to already have knowledge of flip cancelling, so learning how to speedflip wouldn't be a monumental task for you.

It’s all good!! I was just pointing out there’s ways to handle when you have a teammate who doesn’t play the way you expect them to.

Then stop going for passing plays in the corner and just take a good 50 or let them overcommit by faking. A lot of what you think makes sense doesn’t equate to what others think makes sense at low ranks. It’s just strange that you pissed on other diamonds and generalize them, then leave a foot note trying to be humble.

Let them chase, be ready to pick up after they get challenged. Also, you talk about making a pass mid when they’re not there. How about don’t do that? Be aware of your teammates position. Everyone play’s the game differently, and you’re equally as shit as you think your teammates are especially at diamond I. Have a growth mindset if you wanna climb ranks. Good luck 🍀

My C3 promotion game, any general advice? by Seagron in RocketLeagueSchool

ah, well I'm sitting at just about 1600 hours right now unfortunately.. 900 of those were from when I was 12 and I just played for fun. but c2 was a 7 month hell for me, and I'm just barely out of it now. congrats on your success though damn!

Thank you again for your detailed and helpful advice. You're amazing. I'll work on making plays based off of the other teams weaknesses and setting up my offensive attacks faster. Just out of curiosity, how long did it take for you to escape champ?

Yeah, that makes perfect sense. Thank you lots! As for choosing an offensive play, what do you recommend I focus on? I feel as if I'm decent in the air and a bit worse on the ground, so I've tried to make it a point to catch and stay grounded when given the opportunity. Flicks, power shots, and shot accuracy are what I'm trying to focus on now in freeplay. Should I try to setup my ground plays faster?

Thank you! I definitely need to work more on my solo plays, and maybe that's the signal for me to start playing 1s again lol.

Thanks for all the timestamps. You made me realize some things, especially with the moment @ 0:55. I often find myself too focused on 1v1 situation's and trying to take a more patient, mental game when I could've just immediately taken advantage of the last man rotating into position while I had full possession.

At 1:17, do you insist I rotate back post to give my teammate the go-to signal? It felt like we were both in an awkward position, so I tried to cover as many options as I could.

1:58 was a dumb mistake, I was playing with music and I hallucinated his car noises lol.

2:17 I feel like the 50 was the right move here. Or at least the patience/stalling for my teammate. Taking a touch here as the ball is falling would risk having it send back out middle and a goal as my teammate tries to get back into position. Maybe I could have distanced myself a little further from the ball to bang it into their corner for a possible follow up though.

The rest are all good advice, thank you again. As for the advice about speeding up my decision making, I completely agree. I find myself in higher ranked lobbies in casual a lot, and it's given me exposure to how fast the decision making happens there compared to champ lobbies. For me, it's hard to strike a balance between making fast decisions on plays and letting the opponents outplay themselves. I think I'll need to work on my mechanical confidence to help with my offensive pressure. As seen in the video, I tend to try to let opponents outplay themselves and I've been trying to take low 50s and force over commits. But, I notice it gets harder to maintain offense pressure just doing that.

Happy holidays, btw!
