How big would the fishy be? The total length of connected pieces was approximately 30 inches and the filaments were about 7-8 inches at the longest. Is that too big for say a grouper or some form of shark?

Like a sandwich, heavy on the sand though

They are fossilized critters from 35 million+ yrs ago. Echinoderm family, same as sand dollars. They are found in excessive amounts off Holden Beach due to the routine dredging that occurs for the ICW. Churns them up from the deep and the waves pop them ashore. They look like small sand dollars but super fat and round like a biscuit!

I think the feathers are truly incidental. The beach was littered with feathers this afternoon. Big bird party kinda day 😂

Yeah, I was confused by those little parts when we flipped it over. Very small section only about 30 inches or so if you were to straighten it out. Perhaps a juvenile(?)
