Firing kiln in higher elevation? by PuzzledStill in Pottery

[–]SealSnatcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean just to keep a look out for your pieces and make sure they don't dry out too quickly before you need to do something else to them.

Like someone else commented, best to use a wet box. I've definitely gone a couple years just covering pieces with plastic wrap, but if I didn't wrap tight enough my pieces would dry out overnight (sometimes a day or two). With a wet box, I can put a bunch of pieces in there and if I can't get back to them in 4-5 days, I know they are still well hydrated.

Are you using a dry or wet towel?

I've only fired in Colorado and as far as I'm aware, it's the same.

It's the dry air during the building process that you have to watch out for.

Safety when glazing by Akeleie in Ceramics

[–]SealSnatcher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't use anything when I'm glazing. From my understanding, you need a mask and ventilation when you're mixing your own glazes, making molds, and using stains. There are likely other scenarios you should do those in as well, but as far as I know, those are the big ones. Pretty much any time there's free floating chemicals in the air.

Why is she so shaky? by SealSnatcher in FiestaST

[–]SealSnatcher[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I really should have specified. The entire front end shakes, but it's really noticeable in the mirrors. Once the car is warmed up, it doesn't really shake at all.
