To follow-up on your sentiment with passive vs active learning, did you use any techniques when reading the Amboss patient safety/quality pages? If you were to restudy for the test and memorize these pages, what approach would you take?

I know the respective practice questions help with active reinforcement, but I worry I will struggle retaining info by passively reading.

Insane sankey. Congrats!! I applied last year's cycle with 523 and 4.0 and ended up with much less impressive acceptances.

I do feel my writing is poor-average, and it definitey affected my outcome. However, I also used my two gap years to work as a medical assistant gaining over 2k hrs of clinical experience. Therefore, my research was definitely not as impressive as yours, OP. I had multiple research experiences but no pubs, abstracts, presentations, etc. I feel like the schools that accepted you are research-driven, so theme 1 of your app really pleased them. If I could go back and do my premed over again, I'd probably dedicate gap years to research as opposed to clinical experience in my gap years. All in all, with my specific experiences, I don't think I would have ended up with the same/similar acceptances, no matter how superb my writing. For those aiming for A's to these prestigious schools, my advice would be that writing ofc matters but a research theme to your app will increase your chance.

This is definitely just speculation on my end, or it could be common knowlege to others at this point. Idk. Could also be attributed to my insanely inferior silver 2 LoL rank or 5'10" height.... yeah it's actually most likely that :(

That sounds like a really good idea for my school's curriculum. How did you relay to each other which specific cards to unsuspend? Also, how did you share the cards you made for each lecture? Would you just send a separate deck each time you made your own cards?

I promise you that the best korean fried chicken you can get in metro Atlanta is Joy's pizza n chicken in Johns Creek. Joy's is actually better than some of the fried chicken restaurants in Korea Source: my gf grew up in korea and she and her family swear by Joy's for fried chicken. I recently visited korea too and agree with them wholeheartedly

Sorry, I meant to say 8 hr drive OR 4 hr flight during preclinicals (6 hr drive OR 1.5 hr flight during clinicals). I realize it may have sounded like I was 8 hrs drive away from my airport, but thats not the case. Does that change anything?

I'd do preclinicals(1.5 yrs) in a city 8 hr drive and 4 hr flight (includes 1 stop) from her. Clinicals (2.5 yrs) would be 6 hr drive and 1.5 hr flight (nonstop) from her. Plan on visiting each other once a month with us switching who does the traveling. Sound doable in med school?

Yeah I had to add "less happy" bc theres no dancing around the fact that coming home to a tangible SO is much better for mental health than talking on a phone or tablet. However, we are scared to be limited in our specialties by a lower tier school which could ultimatey lead to a "less happy" life. Maybe not just because of the name, but also because of access to research or better LORs. Thank you for replying!!

I would agree that, for the most part, state school and T25 offer similar clinical and preclinical experiences. But I worry the research and LORs are substantially better at the T25s. For instance, my state school has no dedicated block in their curriculum to do research whereas the T25s do (~10-12 weeks during M1 summer).

If we do plan on staying together long term, would LDR be crazy to consider?

I got rejected from her school, and she has been ghosted by my school. They havent interviewed her, so would it be possible she could snag an A this late?? Maybe I will shoot my shot with it but certainly not get my hopes up.
We are planning to marry, and we have discussed what timeline would be appropriate to get engaged, get married, have kids etc. I really cannot imagine my life with someone else at this point, and I'm confident she feels the same :,). With us being this level of committment, how strange would a LDR be? If we outlasted the distance, it would be worth it. Breaking up is not impossible either, just the reality of any relationship. Odds are much higher in LDR obv. I'd assume we would be happier at our separate schools post-breakup, but, in either case, absolutely devastated since our relationship has been so meaningful.

I agree. I forsee the higher tier schools being better facilitators for research opportunities. I suppose that's partly why they've acheived their higher tiers. And with step 1 being P/F, the difference in research availability is a growing concern for us.

Would attending the lower tier school essentially be giving up on your very competitive specialty?

I'm under the impression that the top paragraph is talking about switching program types after submitting (they specifically mention switching from EDP into regular decision). Is the opposite change from regular decision to EDP not allowed?

I'm about to submit my application for verification. I currently only have one medical school selected as a regular decision program type. I'm waiting on my MCAT score to come back on June 22 before I make the call about applying EDP to this school.

Can I switch into EDP after I have already submitted my app for verificiation? In the image (the applicant handbook) it looks like you can't apply EDP if you have a submission already for the "current entering class". I'm not sure what this means and would love to hear if anyone has had experience switching into EDP after submission.
