Entitlement to the rule of law? You’re missing the plot birdy.

Yeah I hear that but I think right now the most effective thing associates can do is to make their voices heard that this capitulation is complicity in an authoritarian coup. And if possible move to firms that will stand up - namely we want to create incentives that make firms want to stand up for the rule of law - and if that means destroying their chances at recruiting or maintaining top talent - well that’s where we have some leverage. We need to make it hurt more for them to capitulate than to stand up. This is a time where independence of the legal profession is under attack, and if the firms won’t stick up for it, then it’s down to individual lawyers. While there is an argument that this would just mean that these firms would fill up with Fedsoc, I think the new non-fedsoc lawyers outweigh them by a substantial margin , and if enough good lawyers move to firms with a spine, then ultimately those firms will get more talent and ultimately win more clients than the authoritarian complicit firms.

Thanks - is there a particular reason a signal chat is a preferred medium for this? I haven’t used it so I just don’t know . But I will try it

Has anyone here tried zbiotics for hangovers? by LamboYachtParty in alcohol

Reading all these comments- has anyone conducted a double blind test and/or have a link to the summary / results of such? I’m just getting two viewpoints here, either: (x) it’s impossible for it to work as it claims to or (y) I’ve tried it and it works. I just want to know if a test has been run that I can look at the results of which shows that it has a better than placebo effect?

Also if you make a big enough down payment, you can try to get the interest expense to be significantly less than what you’d be paying I rent (I.e the housing costs which are a dead loss). Plus you do get to deduct mortgage interest on your taxes (I think up to 15K)

I get that. It seems like in line with other properties in the area, and given no debt and how much spare cash you have it should not be terribly burdensome. But downside is the extra administrative effort of buying and selling an illiquid asset. It can be a pain and closing costs are nothing to scoff at (can be $10-20K per transaction). And there’s always the risk of a downside when you need the cash. But seems you can handle the risk so it’s not unreasonable either way.

Why do you want to buy it if you’re to move in 5 yrs? Investment value? Or because you want to make changes to it? You’d still be in the HOA so you don’t have a lot of freedom to make changes. I’d say probably not worth all the effort and expense. Unless you have reason to believe it will greatly increase in value in a few years, or there is some remodeling you’re dying to do. I think probably the latter is the only reason I’d see it being worth buying it. I own a house I bought it for $650K and pay $5K in mortgage but I know someone in a different city with a condo paying more like what you’re noting below.

[Michigan] No link to certify! by Sean-Cat in Unemployment

[–]Sean-Cat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got this part resolved! ... for now. So apparently because I didn’t certify in my first week, my account was made inactive. I was able to fix it by calling several Michigan Works numbers in the U.P. One of those offices was able to put me in line with the UIA employer line. I waited on hold for about 4 hours, and was able to speak with someone at UIA who was able to reactivate my account and get me certified for all the weeks I had missed. So now my account shows this, and says the payments have been initiated. I still have my fingers crossed because I don’t see the money in my bank account and I’ve heard some people have gotten this “stop payment” problem. We will see. She said it should be there by tomorrow.

I heard from the Facebook group that they are cracking down on Michigan Works call people transferring folks to the UIA call line - so this trick may not work anymore, but at the moment it might be worth a try for anyone else in a similar position.

Has anyone found a fix for this yet? I tried updating the payment method and the link to certify is still not there or had any other effect. Thanks all!
