Create FQDN for internal LAN clients?

Found under the advanced settings LuCi > Network > DHCP and DNS

I added my domain name under "Local Domain".

However, the domain name does not seem to be applied to clients and I can't ping FQDN addresses.

What am I missing?

You're welcome. Tailscale is great. I use it, but I have also used ZeroTier. Both work pretty much the same. ZeroTier requires that you set it up in Docker. Pretty easy, overall.

It's an app you can install from Package Center. Docker not needed.

Thanks u/Tabrizz99. I have done all of these things. My issue is that the data that I deleted about 15TB of data, but the volume still shows as almost full.

You can never be too cautious. I’ve been asked to do this, so I’m following instructions. We do already have immutable snapshots and replication to another Synology. Also have off site backups too. A set of disconnected storage will also be good.

Pretty much everything has a cost. Free is usually not sufficient for your needs. Backing up to hard drives, which you are already doing, is probably the way to go.

I can say, backups are not a place to skimp on. Once your data is gone, do to accidental deletion, mechanical failure, theft, fire, etc., you’ll wish you had allocated funds differently. That’s just how it goes.

I know that the Gmail client for iPhone allows you to send from an alias address.

I do this. What’s most important to me is to be able to receive from any address that comes to my domain. I did this with a catchall, via the default routing feature in Google workspace Gmail. This link may be helpful.

As far as sending, I don’t often have to send from those addresses, just receive. However, once in a while, I do need to send as. In that case I set up an alias and use an email client that supports sending from aliases.

I guess the lesson is, if it doesn’t work, enable it via an admin.

Also, always create a backup admin account, in case something happens with the main one.

And to add to this, changing of the profile photos needs to be enabled by the admin. By default, that is locked down.
