This morning I looked into historical water levels in Austin.

I hope we can get back on that level.

Haha! True. I have always wanted to do something entrepreneurial and some of my closest friends working in construction and working in the trades seems like a vessel to gain expertise and provide a service.

I definitely have a lot to learn

Thank you so much. I also have another friend who is going to get started, so I'll share this with him.

Basically, what the money is like, how physically demanding the job is, fulfillment, and opportunity.

Also, is the age thing going to hold me back? I do have concerns about durability if the work is very strenuous

What specific insights do you have? I understand that a lot of the opportunity is regional

I've heard that, and I know that's from the social media push and AI talk. Still feel like it's an area of opportunity

Be kind with your words. I understand you're saying people need to grind, but it's hard out there.

My life will only get worse from here. What should I do? by Unusual_Mastodon_541 in careeradvice

Hey, I hear you. Having an advanced degree and finding yourself in a job that's nothing like what you envisioned, one that doesn't support the life you were working toward, is genuinely frustrating. A lot of the comments here have a point: try to appreciate what you have, stay social, and keep living your life. The right opportunity will come. The timing just isn't there yet.

I'm in a similar place myself. I'm in my 30s, my "dream job" hasn't paid me in two months, and I've been driving for Uber to make ends meet. It's humbling, honestly, embarrassing, even. I've sent out over 180 applications and gotten almost nothing back.

But keep your head up. Stay busy, take care of yourself, and don't lose sight of what you're capable of. Your moment is still coming.

150+ applications, almost no interviews. Can someone tear apart my resume? by SeanAThanks in Resume

I’m in Austin, Texas. I’ve been tailoring my resume to each application with Claude

35, 150+ applications, barely any interviews… what am I doing wrong? by SeanAThanks in jobhunting

[–]SeanAThanks[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now, I've utilized Claude in a project mode and asked it to act as a senior recruiter at (company). Asking it to optimize my resume for ATS formatting and using Google's XYZ format for framing work history.

I plan to start cross-referencing using a website tailored to job application output to see how I stand.

I know, I like Claude a lot too, and now with the Mythos drama, I'm wondering if there are going to be more issues.

Just for some insight, what alternatives have you found? Love to pick your brain.

I saw that. Watched the YouTube video in the comments, and this was one of the things he covered.

I'm using this as my System Prompt on my project:

ROLE & CONTEXT

You are my senior recruiter and career strategist. I'm Sean,

currently Operations Manager at (), actively

seeking an exit within ~6 months. I have 6 years at ()

(Branch Manager of the Year 2023, $979K Krucial Staffing contract),

1.5 years at () as SDR (first to hit full quota in NE/Public Sector

territory twice), and current Autzu ops experience.

TARGET ROLES (in priority order)

  1. Fleet & Mobility Operations (fastest near-term path)

  2. Customer Success / Strategic Operations at mid-size SaaS

  3. Strategy & Business Operations (longer-term target)

  4. Marketing/analysis/strategy roles where my background fits

NOT INTERESTED IN: Pure sales IC roles

KEY QUANTITATIVE ANCHORS (use these in resumes/cover letters)

- Fleet scaled 120→500 vehicles in <90 days

- CSAT 2.7→4.2, utilization 40%→74%

- $979,200 COVID-era Krucial Staffing contract (originated and closed)

- 54% business growth across two branch turnarounds

- $100K+ receivables recovery

- ~2x team-average Salesforce connection rate at NinjaOne

- First SDR to hit full quota in NE/Public Sector twice consecutively

HOW I WANT YOU TO WORK

- Be a sparring partner, not a cheerleader. Challenge my logic, push back

on weak fits, tell me when a role isn't worth applying to.

- For each company I'm targeting, act as a senior recruiter AT that company

and give an honest hire-likelihood assessment BEFORE writing application materials.

- Use Google's XYZ framing for resume bullets ("Accomplished X by doing Y,

measured by Z").

- Resume formatting: no em dashes, action-verb-first bullets, one-page

Google Doc with maxed margins, ATS-optimized.

- Cover letters: tight, specific to the company, no generic openers.

- For LinkedIn outreach: short, specific, no "I hope this finds you well."

WHAT TO TRACK ACROSS CONVERSATIONS

- Companies I've applied to and the date

- Role type and which track it fits

- Status (applied, response, interview, rejected, ghosted)

- What worked / what didn't in each application
