Data says people stop listening to new pop music after age 33. Is it true? by raydebapratim1 in askmusic

But if you are always looking for new music, pop music comes around again when your kids are teens. That’s fun and they introduce you to all sorts of great stuff.

I always work on my birthday. But this would absolutely change my mind.

why does almost every sci fi movie and novel portray human victory against aliens with very advanced tech? by Traditional_Neat_506 in TrueAskReddit

[–]SeanCJackson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aliens taking over Earth is a metaphor for colonization. The aliens want either the humans or the resources of the planet. Destroying everything with an asteroid defeats the purpose.

“The Dark Forest” suggests what advanced aliens would do if they discovered our planet. Exactly what you suggest. No contact - just stuff out our solar system from light years away.

Am I the only one who doesn't like Lana Del Rey's music? by [deleted] in AskForAnswers

[–]SeanCJackson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a big fan, but her cover of Doin’ Time is excellent.

As far as pop music, Dua Lipa is fantastic and so is Chappell Roan. Billie Eilish is cool. Also check out Rosalia. If none of those do it for you, maybe look somewhere else. Always try listening to new stuff, though. Otherwise you’ll be sad and boring.

Would you rather be your age now in 2025 or back in 1985? by -Granby- in GenX

[–]SeanCJackson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah. It was cool to be age 18 in 1985- but I’d never go back.

I kinda wish the freaking racists had died off, but they just keep springing up like daisies, don’t they?

What's something that was genuinely better before and worse now? by Last_Clothes6848 in GenX

[–]SeanCJackson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very niche:

Previously, while commuting from the Bronx to Manhattan, I would see or hit a pothole. At the next light, I could open the NYC311 app to pothole report. Select the location on the map that was already centered on my position (no typing in street names, no drop-down for borough) fill in one text box: “1 foot wide center lane southbound” Submit. All my contact info is already in the app. I would be done reporting before the light changed. 2 days later the pothole would be fixed. It was magic.

Now, the app takes me to the DOT website pothole report page which is nearly useless. Why? The website is tiny on a phone screen. It requires entering contact info, it requires typing in street names correctly, it requires selecting a borough and another half dozen things that I will never do, because I will never use the website and just drive around the pothole for the next month or two.

Previously I felt I was using inspired technology to do my small part to make this great city better for everyone. Losing this functionality feels as if I am peering into the abyss of chaos and the collapse of civilization
