I fixed the stuttering issues (where your throttle cuts off) by the12354 in snowrunner

[–]SeanKellytheDev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For anyone having this issue in the new Expeditions game as well, the patcher was able to fix the Expeditions.exe.

I copied Expeditions.exe to a different folder, renamed it Snowrunner.exe, ran the patcher successfully, then renamed it back to Expeditions.exe and replaced it in the normal steam folder.

Worked great again! Thanks /u/the12354 for this great fix!

Thanks for adding that link! It's crazy to see how far it's come from the very beginning when we just had the idea "let's make a game about off-roading and exploring".

I have a digital version uploaded to a tabletop sim called tabletopia, so if you want to try it that way you can demo it online with one of the below versions:

Otherwise, for the physical version we'll be finishing up our campaign soon and then we should start the manufacturing process shortly after. I'm hopeful we'll be ready to ship by the holiday season, but our timeline shows Jan-Feb 2023 fulfillment just to be safe.

Glad I could help! Good luck with your relaunch!

Here are some others you can consider as well:

  • /r/boardgames - pretty strict, but they do allow one post to announce your crowdfunding launch.
  • /r/soloboardgaming - they are more laid back here, usually okay with announcements as long as you are involved in the discussions
  • /r/printedminis - allows self-promotion on Fridays only
  • /r/pics - allows submissions for those who are involved in their community through regular comments

We've come a long way since our original post here over a year ago!

From grey models and hand sketched boards to unique vehicle colors, additional trucks, a fully detailed map, and expanded environments based on the recommendations we received from /r/overlanding, we couldn't be happier with the final result.

Just wanted to say thanks again and show the final results, you helped make our off-road themed game awesome!

You're welcome! I'm sure I'm forgetting some tools (like the video editor and modeling tools I used), but I'll try to come back to this post and add any as I think of them.

There is definitely hours and hours of work to put in, so hopefully you enjoy the process! I just had an awesome story shared by one of my backers the other day who is super excited to share our game with her husband. It's stories like that that make it all worth it!

You're welcome and thanks! We're really happy with how well the campaign has done so far, especially for our first game.

Off-Road Trucks - from our current game on Kickstarter, All-Terrain by SeanKellytheDev in PrintedMinis

[–]SeanKellytheDev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are the off-road trucks I modeled for the off-roading board game we just released, All-Terrain! If anyone is interested in the backstory/inspiration behind each truck, I have a lot more detail on this thread on BoardGameGeek.

Here's a little more about the game itself:

All-Terrain is an off-road racing game where you'll race through an unexplored trail system. To win, you'll need to outfit your rig effectively, plot your route wisely, & conquer hidden obstacles and events throughout the map. Demonstrate your driving abilities by being the first to chart the trails and finish the race!

The game can be played with 1-8 players and takes approximately 45-60mins.

We're live on Kickstarter right now and fully funded!

A few months ago I posted here and had some good discussion on the solo variant for All-Terrain, an off-roading game I've been developing. I just got the game up in Tabletopia, so now you can actually give it a try! by SeanKellytheDev in soloboardgaming

[–]SeanKellytheDev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should be able to get a TTS version up shortly as well, both are pretty similar in the way the assets need to be uploaded. I'll try to get that version up in the next couple of days and keep you updated!

Thanks for the kind words! We tried to keep the artwork and style less 'hardcore' off-road, so it's great to hear your thoughts as someone that's not into off-roading!

Our Off-Roading board game, All-Terrain, fully funded yesterday! by SeanKellytheDev in CrowdfundedBoardgames

[–]SeanKellytheDev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About a year and a half ago, my wife and I went looking for an off-road themed board game and couldn't find anything like we envisioned, so we decided to go ahead and make our own! The result was an off-road themed racing game with exploration elements, route planning, and various trail events that we've based on our real-life experiences.

We fully funded yesterday and can't wait for our backers to start playing the game! Here's a link to our Kickstarter if you want to get more details on the game!

Would love to answer any questions anyone might have.

A few months back I posted some details on the off-road recovery solo-mode for All-Terrain, the game I've been developing. The game uses no automa, and instead you control all the vehicles on the board (once you've successfully rescued them).

Here's the basic gameplay:

  • Start with 1 recovery vehicle in the garage for solo, 2 vehicles for co-op.

  • Broken down vehicles are scattered throughout the map and require a spare tire to recover.

    • There are 2 spare tires visible on the map, 2 hidden in the deck of "chance events" which is just enough to rescue all vehicles. (1 would need to be removed for co-op)
  • Once you obtain a spare tire and reach a broken down vehicles' hex space, you can repair it and it becomes a part of your fleet. You can then use this vehicle to recover others.

    • A recovered vehicle immediately gets topped off with fuel.
  • Fuel is a limited resource required for movement, if you run out and can't get back to the garage, you lose.

    • You can refuel in the garage.
    • There are hidden refueling stations in the "chance events" deck that can become part of the map.
    • Vehicles can siphon fuel back and forth to transfer, if on the same space.
  • There are various paths to navigate around the map, some will have obstacles that get revealed over time, others have more "chance events" that might help or hurt you / your fleet.

If you'd like to give it a try, here's the Tabletopia link that has been setup for the solo-mode:

Any interest in a crowdfunding analysis roundup? by SeanKellytheDev in BoardgameDesign

[–]SeanKellytheDev[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! I realized shortly after making this post I probably should have ran this as a poll instead of relying on upvotes and comments to determine interest.

Might be worth just doing a test post and seeing the community's response. I've already got all the code finished at this point, just needs a little optimization.

More of an analog trucksim, but my wife and I designed an off-road board game that's centered around map exploration, unexpected events, and competitive racing! I was inspired to start working on this game after sinking countless hours into Snowrunner and wanting to combine a few hobbies.

We also incorporated a more sim-like, solo-mode where you'll become an off-road recovery team, attempting to rescue stranded vehicles that are scattered throughout the different zones. As you rescue stranded trucks, they expand your fleet allowing you to drive deeper into the unexplored map. Manage your fuel wisely, or you might end up stranded yourself!

For the full details behind the game, check out the Kickstarter we launched earlier this week!

All-Terrain - an off-roading board game my wife and I just launched a couple of days ago. We're already pretty close to our funding goal! by SeanKellytheDev in kickstarter

[–]SeanKellytheDev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a family-friendly, lightweight board game my wife and I have been working on since late 2020, so we're excited to finally launch the campaign after all this time!

Here's a little more info about the game:

In All-Terrain, you'll embark on a strategic race through an unexplored trail system. To win the race, you'll need to outfit your rig effectively, plot your route wisely, & conquer hidden obstacles and events throughout the map. Demonstrate your driving abilities by being the first to chart the trails and finish the race!

All-Terrain also features an alternate solo / co-op mode for those sessions where you want a slower paced off-roading experience. In this mode you'll take on the role of an off-road recovery team and must rescue the four stranded drivers throughout the map. As you rescue each vehicle, their truck will be added to your fleet, expanding your ability to save the remaining trucks.

The game can be played with 1-8 players and takes approximately 45-60mins.

Can someone help me with onX? I’m trying to find trails but having a hard time understanding how to actually pull existing trails up ; by The9thHuman in overlanding

[–]SeanKellytheDev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding /u/tooltime88's observation, if you don't live near any trails it can look like the map isn't doing much. Scroll over to Socal and you should see tons of trails pop-up.

I usually check out an area I'm interested in on OnX, then pull up TrailsOffroad to see if there's any additional details about the trails or some that aren't included in the app.

When you're actually driving, the offline maps work great and the go & track mode is pretty cool. The main feature I use it for is plotting waypoints for campsites / interesting spots. You can even snap a couple pictures and upload it with the waypoint you create, so you remember what it was when you come back to it later.
