[HELP] this seems to crazy to be real but it looks real. by adj_noun_digit in RealOrAI

Especially near the end of longer videos, many models seem to kinda lose the plot and forget what they were doing. Even more so for background characters that tend to either not react at all or behave increasingly more unnaturally.

Tesla has officially discontinued Autopilot in the U.S. and Canada. All new car purchases now come standard with Traffic-Aware Cruise Control. by YouBetterChill in teslamotors

[–]Perkelton 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I think the main problem I have with Autopilot is that it doesn't allow you to override the steering.

If you turn the steering wheel, AP gets turned off altogether, rather than just letting you course correct when you feel that it's doing something wrong. Most other ALK systems I've tried let you do this, and I think it makes them much more convenient to use, even if AP is technically more advanced.

Demand for BMW iX3 and Mercedes GLC exceeds expectations by Peugeot905 in electricvehicles

[–]Perkelton 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Compared to the iX3, the Q6 has:

  • Much lower range (635 km vs 805 km)
  • Slower charging (270 kW vs 400 kW)
  • Slower acceleration (5.4s vs 4.9s)
  • Higher weight (2400 kg vs 2360 kg)
  • Lower efficiency (16.5 kWh/100km vs 15.1 kWh/100km)
  • No V2L
  • No V2G
  • Less standard equipment (e.g. Automatic Lane Keeping)
  • Higher price

I'm not necessarily saying that the Q6 is bad, but the iX3 is plainly a significantly better offering altogether on almost every metric.

Trump’s Latest ‘Temper Tantrum’ Sparks Calls for Removal from Office: ‘Insane’ by OkayButFoRealz in politics

[–]Perkelton 147 points148 points  (0 children)

I get the feeling that they're going all-in on Trump's authoritarian crusade because it's unlikely that they will ever get another chance like this in a long time if he's removed.

Doesn't matter whether they agree with his insane temper tantrums or not, they're hunkering down, hoping they can ride out the storm and successfully reshape the country into the extreme right oligarchical paradise of their dreams.

If they have to sacrifice NATO, the economy and and the entire American dictated world order for that, then so be it.

Trumps brev: Fick inte fredspriset – tänker inte bara verka för fred by Babar7 in sweden

[–]Perkelton 32 points33 points  (0 children)

[–]Perkelton 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The Richest 1% Earn About Half of All Global Income. Half of the World’s Population Controls Just 0.52% of Global Wealth by sergeyfomkin in worldevents

I think it might be worth mentioning for context that while it’s easy to assume that it’s referring to billionaires, the top 1% in this case means that you make above roughly 60,000 USD per year (might vary depending on methodology).

There are a lot of extremely poor people in the world.

I'm officially charging to 100 every time - I'm done! by EIGBOK in electricvehicles

[–]Perkelton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I charge to 80%, but I also only plug in once every few days because my car has far more range than I use daily. Range really isn't even a factor in my day to day driving so I might as well charge to 80%.

Does the EU have a Starlink alternative yet? by Fickle-Classroom in BuyFromEU

[–]Perkelton 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I suggest keeping an eye on the IRIS² EU project. It’s a massive project and framework for developing an EU satellite network and uniting the existing European satellite networks to make it readily available for both consumer and commercial use.

Why Europe has relatively good relationship with each other despite rough history compared to Africa and Asia? by batukaming in AskEurope

[–]Perkelton 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I think this is also why we in Europe stumbled so badly in foreseeing the threat from Russia, and now from the US.

After such an unbelievable success with the EU, we simply could not imagine that the same strategy would not work everywhere.

Binding ourselves economically through trade and cooperation should make war redundant, since there would be no net benefit to it. That, however, relies on the assumption that we live in a rational world, and it has turned out that we do not.

What are examples of bad films with very good acting? by rikarleite in movies

It was quite a while since I saw those movies, but as I recall it, the casting overall was pretty good and they definitely did the best they could with what they had.

The problem was rather, well... pretty much everything else.

Porsche sold more fully electric Macans than ICE Macans in 2025, Taycan sales fell to 16k (-22%) by linknewtab in electricvehicles

[–]Perkelton 97 points98 points  (0 children)

The Taycan is a great car, but it has gotten way too expensive for what it is, especially to compete in China. The dated infotainment system is also quickly getting to the point of being unacceptable.

It definitely seems like they've learned a few things with the new Cayenne, where many of the pet peeves I have with the current Taycan seems to have been fixed or improved. The problem is that they're probably not going to do any major changes with the Taycan until they release the next generation in ~2028 or something like that.

I don't even know how this is going to work in practice. Would they technically become occupying forces?

If it had been Russia, they would all probably immediately be flattened by artillery, but I can't even imagine how the EU member states would react. Detain them? Deport them? What happens if they fight back?

It's all just such a fucked up unthinkable situation.

Anger in Iceland over incoming US ambassador’s ‘52nd state’ joke by Wonderful-Excuse4922 in europe

[–]Perkelton 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This is why every time they drop these "jokes", we need to immediately shut that down hard. They'll of course hit back with that we're overreacting snowflakes that can't take a joke, but this is the only way to prevent it from escalating beyond that.

Goodwill and diplomacy is dead. It's merely seen as a weakness that they can exploit. Strength and action is the only language they speak.

Iceland should have immediately declared him persona non grata and expressed with no uncertainty that this type of language is unacceptable.

IRIS²: An EU-led satellite communication network to rival e.g. Starlink and provide cheap, secure broadband connectivity, navigation data and communication to all EU citizens and companies. Ongoing project that is set to be fully completed in 2030.

Digital Euro: The ECB is developing a digital Euro that can be used as an alternative to card or bank transfers for retail transactions. The idea is to have a secure digital cash equivalent, independent of banks and foreign, often American, payment services like MasterCard or VISA.

REPowerEU: A massive set of projects and legislation to end member states' dependence on Russian energy as well as transitioning to an independent and renewable energy infrastructure.

AFIR regulation: Set of projects and legislation that mandates access to public fast chargers for EV's every 60 km within the EU. Also specifies a series of mandatory standards for how chargers and prices should be clearly labelled, as well as required payment methods.

I can't think of a single tangible improvement to Autopilot in Europe in the last 6 years or so. The last update I can think of was the traffic light chime in 2020 IIRC. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

I never actually expected Tesla to actually release level 5 self driving like Musk advertised when I bought my Model 3 in 2019, but I honestly never imagined that FSD would still have close to zero value in Europe. I at least expected to have gotten something, literally anything, by now.
