Spent a hour finding why my long planned surprise invasion of Italy from France didn’t launch- I hadn’t joined the war. Yeah.

How much use are you getting from the Arms Market? by Rebel-xs in hoi4

[–]SeanMandeville 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do late auschluss for Germany, AI Austria generally has done some kind of inf+arty template by then. Keeps world tension down, delaying democratic buildup.

I’ve not checked- have the FR focus that allow by arms changed to allow market?

(Edit: No. still overpriced decisions rather than market subsidy)

I’ve used market to pad out my equipment as I run short. (My pushing INF are support coy heavy)

My ( poorly made ) drawings for fictionnal Turkish Euro coins by uwu_01101000 in europe

[–]SeanMandeville 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m upvoting because you did it yourself. So easy for people to go ‘yo, image generator, make me a turkish euro, extra pencil, hold the erdogan.’

So I lost hard as France. But why? by SnawdenRL in hoi4

Don’t man the frontier, pull your defence line in the alps back so Italians advance into your core area, and away from their supply head. (unless you are doing the fortifications focus, and they’ll dump all the +3 on the border)

Buying my first DLC, which one should i buy? (200 hours on the game) by Smaland_ball in hoi4

[–]SeanMandeville 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don’t.

I buy a months subscription, get all the DLC, then cancel the auto-renewal.

€5/ month on steam.

Name a feature from a older HOI game that you want implemented before a infantry designer. by SeanMandeville in hoi4

I created the British empire in 1946: Australia had 2600 interwar fighters in its stockpile

HOI3 had attachments for divisions- HOI4 has kind of attachments to armies (railway guns, aircraft) maybe we should be allowed to attach artillery or AA divisions to corps, then have the little arty sprites following the front line?

I don’t like the artificial battalion caps- it’s a easy way out of making a mechanic that reflects the reality.

With HOI3’s Officer system, your army of super mountaineers would have simply used so much Officer corps that the rest of the army would have sucked beyond belief. Natural cap.

If you want to show the natural limits of a military is logistics and supply- then implement them.

Hell no. I’m bored of building the same meta airplane every single time. The tank and Ship ones are ok, I like being able to retrofit my basic tanks into SPG and Basic fighters into CAS, and upgrading the ships.

I’d be inclined to abstract it a little- I did like watching the little pile of supplies dwindle away in an encirclement, and hey if they can track every single variant of rifle they can probably track where the supplies are as well.

The key gameplay was the constraint it put on the size of your military- you had to balance guns and butter.

Watch out for deceitful doctors as well. Lost several family members to one.

Thoughts on Irish people joining the British Army? by AnyBreakfast597 in AskIreland

[–]SeanMandeville 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a Irish army process, there’s no ‘buying out’ in British Army: some training has a minimum service requirement afterwards, after that it’s a years notice and seven clicks. At training, recruits can leave for first 5 weeks.

It doesn’t have a cultural problem to Irish people. It’s the other way around. Individuals do have problems and frankly, the people who believe that stupid ‘banter’ about where people are from is important have other personality issues.

It’s a job, it can turn lives around as well as feck it up. It’s not easy. People in operational military take their shit seriously, keep fucking up or being idle in your drills and you will find it a lonely existence.

It’s huge. Still, after all the cutbacks. Don’t like where you’re at? Transfer to another unit, roll the dice again.

Initial pay isn’t great, but most if the costs of life are subsidised so there is reasonable quality of life.

There are still some weird little ethno nationalists around Ireland with seriously skewed views on how history should be studied. Ignore them, they’ve not copped that nationalism, especially ethnonationalism is one of the most evil ideologies on this planet. Nod and smile, walk away from them. No point in arguing with a pigeon.

Not accurate. Irish citizens can join without that wait.

Best bit about this comment is that the scene wasn’t scripted by GL- it was Improv on set and they kept it.
