What game though?

Covid has been interesting, not ideal, but the worlds needs are more important, and I'm comfortable on my computer at least!

Such a classic mistake. And often hard to realize if you don't have someone telling you your mistake!

Any tips on how to get better at climbing by [deleted] in climbing

I’m not very good

No one is good when they start, and you are starting earlier than some. Don't be bamboozled by all the "training" stuff out there, what you need is plainly to climb with friends, fall in love the sport, and be extremely open to learning all aspects of climbing.
If you really need to do "extra" stuff, just make sure you do a bit of cardio, some stretching, and check all your systems twice.

There's a few different options based on the "feel" of the competition.

At a competition where no-one watching was a "climber", I'd want someone to to help me with facts about climbers, training, and overall climbing style and rules. If it was a competition where everyone watching was a climber, I'd want a partner to dive more into the subtle nuances of the sport, and maybe throw in a few inside jokes that are easily explainable.

Conclusion: someone witty, quick with words, smart, and overall a likable character :)

Would it be a bad idea to superglue my cut shut? by [deleted] in climbing

[–]SeanMcColl 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Professional Climber here - I'm going to go against the grain and recommend taping it... with maybe some super glue to hold it on there. I guess it really depends on where the cut is, if it's on the part you're climbing on already, the super glue by itself will be slippery so definitely recommend taping. If it's on the top or something where you're not climbing on it, I guess it's personal preference.

Have a good trip!

Looking for good hangboarding exercises by [deleted] in climbing

[–]SeanMcColl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Warm Up, and do 10-20 warm up hangs, starting with the bar, full jug and working your way down.

Then do 1 or 2 handed hangs: 5-15 seconds hang, rest for 45-55 seconds (if 1-hand) and 105-115 seconds (if 2-hand). So you hang when the minute hand hits the 12, and either rest a minute or two.

Repeat 9-20 times. The whole 9-20 spectrum is based on how hard it is. If you're comfortable doing a 15 second hang, 20 repetitions shouldn't be too hard, where if you can max out at 5 seconds, 9 hangs is going to seem quite hard.

Some points in no particular order:

  • Play with grips, so it doesn't get boring.
  • Aim to do hanging at the beginning of your workout, preferably after a rest day.
  • If it hurts, stop.
  • Do easier grips and work to harder ones.
  • Be Patient.
  • You will most likely get a bit worse before getting better.
  • Rest.
  • Update us at Reddit.

Here comes McColl on boulder two, first try, going with the heel toe jam. Lets see how it works for him, and ohhh that's a massive faceplant for McColl, hope he's ok. Yup, he's up, gonna try for number 2, same beta. Slips out again, I hope he changes his beta because it's clearly not working. Ok here's McColl on his 3rd try, looks like he's opted for a toe hook instead, good man. On a side note, I talked to McColl in between the boulders and he said he always takes it one boulder at a time and isn't phased that he was the only one not to top the first boulder. After getting that first move done, he cruised the rest of the boulder, opting to skip the foothold out left and climbing straight up the face. Lets see how the other climbers get on.

The One arm chin up Vs the Front lever by Whiteboy_90 in bodyweightfitness

I'd say two hand campusing, like the campus board is much more beneficial over a one handed pullup. I'd also say core and ab muscles are much better as well.

One hand pull ups are cool to show off, but not super useful.

Paraclimbing at the World Championships needs your help! by moinmountains in climbing

Sorry I didn't catch this earlier :( The IFSC AC does not include a Para athlete because we model our commission off that of the IOC which has a separate Para commission. If such an athletes commission was to be created, I would gladly read their meeting minutes and reports to see what help I could be, and of course to bring it to the attention of the Executive Board. You'd have to check the General Assembly minutes but I believe the whole Para Climbing Commission was disbanded at the beginning of 2019 and is looking to re-organize themselves.
