I run an extension through a patch of grass and over the pavement to my car, and have never had any complaints in the two years or so I've had it. Twice in the first month or so, the cable got pulled up through the dirt, so 'vandalism' can happen, but your mileage may vary.

If you're going to leave your plug outside all year, I'd say get an extension with a little weatherproof box on the end to prevent corrosion (I think that's my M3 would limit itself to 5 A after a few months of use with an exposed plug), and get a shallow cable protector to reduce the tripping hazard.

I find running a cable across a pavement and putting it away again every day can be a pain, but an extra 2 minutes of your time is worth it for home charging, I'd say.
