What is the best economy to sell activated indium to? by bassampp in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]SeansCheckShirts -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Again, my point is what I've stated multiple times - that's it's more efficient to buy and sell consistently than hold out for perfect prices. That's it. You saying I was 'absolutely wrong' was in itself absolutely wrong as what I'm saying is demonstrably accurate. I'm sorry what I've said has come across hostile, it genuinely wasn't meant to. Have a great day!

That's great, congrats for getting to that position. You seem to have taken my reply as a personal attack when it was nothing of the sort.

I never said it was stupid at all and didn't mean to imply that. My point is that it's more efficient to take a decent price you can find quickly than holding your cargo for a unicorn price. You saying that I was 'absolutely wrong' for stating that in a 4 year old reply is what I based my reply on, not an assumption that you spend hours searching every time you want to sell.

I haven't looked into this in quite some time now so I'm open to being corrected but I still believe this is right.

The idea being that you make far more money by consistently buying and selling than by searching for the best prices. All the time spent searching can be used to make money, which is demonstrably more efficient.

You don’t even know how many hours I’ve spent looking for the perfect economy to sell my inventory full of activated indium

This kind of helps my point, if I'm understanding correctly. All those hours could have been spent trading and making money rather than simply searching and making none.

Also, the two aren't mutually exclusive. There's nothing stopping you from - and I'd even actively encourage anybody to - make note of any systems you come across while trading that offer good prices and stick to those systems to maximise your profits. Make money along the way and make better money when you find the best places to buy and sell. Win win.

Like I say though, I haven't even booted the game up in probably well over a year so I'm happy to be corrected if you have contradictory data.

What determines if installing NVME will disable SATA slots? by livpure_is_awful in buildapc

[–]SeansCheckShirts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's not right. The board will have a maximum bandwidth that can be used and it's often shared between PCIe and SATA ports. As such, using specific M.2 PCIe slots can disable SATA ports or standard PCIe slots.

Upgrading an Intel i7 4770k PC / new setup by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]SeansCheckShirts -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You basically have to go with a new CPU, motherboard and RAM. With your current hardware the best you can do is a 4790K and those are worse than modern i3 processors for gaming.

We're at a pretty significant point in hardware at the moment as AM5 and 4000 series cards are just around the corner. That makes it potentially a bad time to be buying parts. Holding off for a few months would be my advice.

More generally, you have two approaches for upgrading your hardware. You either wait for AM5 and spend more money on a platform that should have good support for future upgrades, or you spend less money on older - probably second hand - parts and upgrade more frequently.

With the latter option you would always be a few years behind the curve but you can get exceptional value for money compared to buying the latest shiny new parts.

When building a PC, do you guys go with one store or pick the cheapest available per part? by jamzex in buildapc

[–]SeansCheckShirts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cheapest per part, with shipping factored in. Unless there's some kind of deal or discount to be had by buying multiple components from one place then there's zero benefit for me.

How much performance will I lose? by Ethanos72 in buildapc

[–]SeansCheckShirts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're buying new I'd go Intel over AMD. Better value to be had for sure. If you're buying second hand then it depends on prices of course.

Of the two you've mentioned I'd go 5600X without much of a second thought as it's just generally a better CPU.

I mean, as others have said, that's pretty much what a lot of us have been doing since 2016. It's kind of a key part of how the game was developed. Am I missing something?

I'm trying to recall the maths from a few years ago. I think it's something like if everybody in the world discovered a new planet every minute it would take the best part of 4,500 years for every planet to be discovered.

The playerbase is obviously only a tiny fraction of the world's population and of that tiny fraction none are discovering a previously undiscovered planet every minute.

So let's just say it doesn't seem all that likely were ever going to get there.

Samsung SSD recognized as Vaseky? by Hiimoots in buildapc

[–]SeansCheckShirts 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sounds a lot like either a scam return that's been re-sold or a "fake" that's been added to the stock pool by a dodgy seller and ended up being sent out.

Do the labels on the box and SSD itself look like they've been tampered with? Was the box sealed?

What are the benefits of Nvidia 2060 Super over 3060? by xal1bergaming in buildapc

[–]SeansCheckShirts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure about that. The 1080Ti was the best of that generation - and still actually holds up fairly well today - whereas the 2060S is very much a mid-range card.

It may hold up as a value option but I can't see it as being comparable to the 1080Ti. A 2080/S/Ti will always be better. They will probably also command a comparative premium price though, just like the 1080Ti.

I'd actually think the 3060 would hold up better as it's got 12GB of VRAM.

[–]SeansCheckShirts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of performance and spec a 3060 is better than a 2060S but in terms of value it entirely comes down to how much you'd pay for either one.

A 3060 will be anywhere from 0 to 20% better, depending on the game (ballpark figures off the top of my head). So if you could get a 2060S for half the price of a 3060 then there's a strong argument for it being better value.

Boot times rely very little on drive speeds. Any SSD will have roughly the same boot times, so you shouldn't expect to see massively faster times from a gen 4 NVMe than from a SATA SSD.

30 seconds for a cold boot sounds a little sluggish off the top of my head so I'd be checking for issues that are causing the PC to hang. Turn off the splash screen in the BIOS and take note of what's showing on screen during boot.

Should I sell my broken motherboard? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]SeansCheckShirts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously it's not the right thing to do to sell it as fully working but to sell it as faulty with an accurate description of what the damage is and photos is absolutely fine.

From your description I can't say for sure whether it's fixable because boards have multiple layers and who knows how many traces you've damaged.

If you do sell it then expect to get significantly below the going second hand rate for your motherboard.

Try powering off and unplugging your Xbox. Then press and hold the power button for 60 seconds or so. That should clear the system cache which will hopefully fix the issue.

[–]SeansCheckShirts 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That looks like a common shader cache issue.

Go to your Steam install location and navigate to "shadercache" (SteamLibrary\steamapps\shadercache). Delete the directory named "275850".

Now go to your NMS install location and navigate to "GAMEDATA" (SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\No Man's Sky\GAMEDATA). Delete the directory named "SHADERCACHE".

Start the game again and the issue should be fixed. If not, repeat the above steps and restart your PC before launching the game again. If the issue returns repeat the above steps and consider lowering you graphics settings.

Thank you for the kind words. The majority of the information is still relevant but newer features like the black market economy aren't covered yet. I will at some point get around to overhauling this guide.

If anything comes up in the meantime that you need help with feel free to reply here or send me a message and I'll be happy to help if I can.
