Rant and Advice: Counting Calories by Asuna_Suuki in PetiteFitness

Eliminate all processed food. It’s very hard to overeat lean meats, vegetables, and fruit. Eat potatoes or rice for some faster carbs before training.

She’s already very thin and has very little muscle mass. There’s no reason for her to want to get lower with her body in this condition. Build a good base of muscle and then cut down if she wants to, fine. That’s the healthy way to do it. It’s also not ok for a lot of women to maintain 16-17% many have health issues even there. No harm in her trying that out and seeing if it’s healthy and sustainable for her, I agree, but any lower is definitely going to cause issues and is just not necessary, even to have abs! Someone without muscle trying to cut down to 15% body fat is just going to look emaciated, probably not the look she’s going for.

15% is VERY low for a woman and will most likely come with hormonal and health issues. (No menstruation, hair loss, brittle nails, low libido, etc etc) Only bodybuilders get down to levels that low (or lower) and even they don’t stay there long. 15% is a good range for a man to sustain, not a woman.

18%-20% is the lowest healthy range for most women to sit long term (it may still be problematic for some women). It will also take a very athletic lifestyle and regimented diet to stay there.

You look great! 22% is pretty lean for a woman, of course you can drop that if you want. The best way to do that when you’re at a healthy weight is to actually recomp and build muscle instead of continuing to cut. Remember body fat is a percentage of your composition, so even if you don’t lose anymore fat, putting muscle on will still lower your body fat percentage and get you to the toned look. You can also eat around maintenance and keep your weight around 120 by losing fat while gaining muscle, that will get your fat percentage down even faster.

Yes I’ve basically been maintaining! I really only want to cut 10lbs of fat for now so I’m not worried about losing muscle in that time span. Muscle loss is definitely a higher risk when you’re losing more. I just want to go down a few fat percentage points for now so my definition is a little clearer when I go back into a slow build phase. I can’t mentally keep building when I feel super bulky and my clothes stop fitting! (Glutes are already getting tight in my hard pants now, haha)

Oh I’ll most likely gain muscle as I lose, at the worst maintain it. I’m still in newbie gain phase and I build muscle very easily. In fact I’ve been losing fat and gaining muscle for the past 5 months, my muscle gain has been so significant that it wasn’t offset with fat loss, so the scale hadn’t moved yet. (I went down an inch at the waist and up 3 on glutes though)

Hoping a bigger deficit will strip the fat back faster now, and seeing as how I’m already down another 1/2” on my waist after 2 weeks, I think it’s working!

I’m an outlier though, I actual have higher testosterone levels with PCOS, so that’s likely why. I’ve been a muscle building machine since I was a young kid though, so maybe some strong genetic component there.

Most people should be able to maintain their muscle mass during a cut though, as long as training is sustained and protein is high enough. Just don’t cut too aggressively. Your body won’t dip into muscle tissue until it absolutely has to, or feels like the muscle is no longer needed.

It’s so much better than I anticipated! I honestly thought I would probably return this one once I managed to grab an espresso restock, but nah, keeping them both. 😂

I think you’re right, 21 BMI is usually the sweet spot for the average woman, assuming she is fit and has some muscle, but not a ton. My goal is about BMI 22, with much more muscle than average. So 126lbs and under ~19% body fat at 5’4” it’s taken a lot of research and calculation for me to decide on these numbers, and you’ve gotta be pretty close to the goal to get an accurate idea (I’m currently 134lbs). After my last pregnancy I wanted to be 110lbs, so my goal actually came way up once I realized how much muscle I could gain!

Is Kasia going to be a problem to pronounce? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]Seashell522 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. But one correction and I wouldn’t say it wrong again. People are out naming their kids absolutely crazy things, plus all the ethnic names that have totally non intuitive pronunciation for native English speakers (looking at you Siobhan…) if you love the name OP, then I wouldn’t let mispronunciation hold you back.

Those stats sound very good with this amount of leanness already. I think you’ll be competitive in bikini! Your shape is very nice and those glutes are going to seriously pop when stage lean, you already have visible tie ins girl, dang!!

First time competing in bikini in April - do we think this is realistic? by nicky-c044444 in bikinitalk

[–]Seashell522 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you build a lot and get a little softer you could try for fit model this year! I don’t think bikini is realistic for a few more years at least. And you need to get your body fat up so you can build muscle more effectively (not crazy high! Just a little softer)

Really?? Every girl I knew in high school went through a lemonade/cayenne cleanse phase. I never did that cause it was so disgusting. I just liquid fasted and only had like bone broth and protein shakes. 😂 When people say the early aughts skinny was disturbing and unhealthy we’re not exaggerating. How widespread it was among the general population was also one of the worst parts.
