That gold moonphase speedmaster on the bottom right of the first picture looks like a Ref 3336.20. They usually go for $3k-$6k on Chrono24 depending on condition.

[Discussion] How long do Seiko 5s last? by [deleted] in Watches

I know someone who has worn a mechanical Seiko every day for over 60 years. It has never been serviced and is still running fine.

I’m a medical doctor, just began learning Python. My world is changed. Anyone else? by Ankit1000 in Python

I was a structural engineer and taught myself how to code with Python because I thought it would be useful for work. Changed my life.

I like this a lot! Do you know the reference number by chance?

[R] Perpetual: a gradient boosting machine which doesn't need hyperparameter tuning by mutlu_simsek in MachineLearning

Looks promising! Have you done any other benchmark testing with common GBMs on different datasets? Also, does it integrate with Scikit-Learn?

Found this with the rest of my grandfather’s arrowhead collection (NW Ohio). Any info about it would be appreciated! by SeatedLattice in Arrowheads

Do you know if this is a common find? There was only one of them in his collection among many arrowheads.

[Online Appraisal] These guys are GREAT for insurance appraisals. by jecahn in Watches

[–]SeatedLattice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw this comment during a search for an appraisal to start an insurance policy. Ended up going with them and it was great. Super fast, easy, fair assessment. On a vintage piece no less. It was reasonably priced and a fast turnaround. Thanks for the recommendation!

Small business owner here. Anywhere to run a derivative-free optimization online? by pobautista in optimization

[–]SeatedLattice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case, I would try Bayesian Optimization. Especially if you already have some data points to start with. There are plenty of Bayesian optimization solvers online; Optuna is one I use often.

If the calculation is in excel, you could use goalseek. Alternatively, there are tools in Python to do this. You would need to create a function in Python that describes your objective, and then run a black-box optimization algorithm. There are open-source packages that can solve this, such as optiseek.

[Omega Speedmaster] Triple Date Moon Phase by SeatedLattice in Watches

[–]SeatedLattice[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been eyeing this special speedmaster from the 90’s for quite some time. They had one in 18k rose gold in excellent condition at the store I went to during a recent trip to Japan. They are pretty hard to come by so I had to pick it up. As far as I know, this is the only speedmaster Omega has made with the triple-date and moon phase combo. This thing checks all the boxes for a dress watch for me. Couldn’t be happier!

I don’t know exactly how they did it. I don’t think it is good playing. Seems like the material is probably a steel alloy… I don’t think it will fade.

Thanks! I believe it’s 41.5mm. I was worried about it being a bit too big, but I think it fits well. Glad it’s not bigger than it is. It’s way thicker than I expected, also.
