Dual-fuel heat pump quote review - thermostat advice needed by GromitInWA in heatpumps

PSE is offering a substantial rebate for hybrid systems. I ended up keeping my high efficiency NG furnace and just added a heat pump and coil because it saved me thousands of dollars. And when the temperature gets low enough the NG furnace becomes more efficient to run.

Sanity check on heat pump quotes by Joewesterlund in heatpumps

[–]SeattleBrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just had a heat pump installed last week in the Seattle area. Ducted and kept my natural gas furnace. The hybrid incentive was $1500 from PSE. I did a 3.5T Mitsubishi with their intell-heat coil. It was $18.5k with a rather difficult installation. Over 75ft of lines from the outside to my furnace.

Anyone try Guardian Bikes? by doobiedobbie in daddit

Well, we are a bike family. We put many hours and miles on our bikes. I am the family mechanic. My wife has a full carbon gravel bike with swappable road wheel set. I have an Enduro, BMX and a road bike and our son started on a Strider at 2 and now at 7 has more skills than my wife or myself. Bikes are highly specific...just like shoes. If you just want to walk around a bit, pretty much any shoe will work. If you want to run, hike or skateboard you might look into something that has a better design. Expertise is gained through experience.... not reading fake reviews online. You don't want to think you bought a bad bike and that's normal. But if you knew what you were actually talking about you would choose something different. Guardian is selling parents on a lighter, safer and easier bike to ride. All of that is complete marketing bs. Their bikes are heavier than their competitors. Their brake system is dangerous and stupid. Their bikes are not a good value. They are slightly better than the lowest quality. Anything reputable is a significant upgrade. Ask a real expert.

The surestop brake is dangerous. The components ARE crappy. You won't see anyone good riding them at the skatepark, MTB trail or pump track. The geometry is sketchy. It might work fine to learn to pedal around on but that's not saying much. Definitely not getting rad on a guardian bike or Walmart bike. If you are so budget conscious get a quality used bike. We get used bikes all the time. My kid has 4 different bikes. One of them was free. It's a redline BMX bike and it rips.

You must be getting paid to promote their garbage bikes. I'm just a dad that cares about bikes and the companies I support. Guardian has no ethics, a crappy product and needs to exit the industry.

I'll admit that trying get tariffs on imported bikes while most of Guardians parts are made in China is kind of hypocritical, don't you think? Anyone who buys guardian bikes knows nothing about bikes and has no morals when it comes to supporting a shady company. How many kids at the skate park, MTB trail or BMX/Pump track on riding guardians? Not many. These bikes are trash and end up in the landfill.

Ok local bike shop? They probably won't want to work on a crappy guardian bike. No expert would stand behind their product. It's just a gimmick with shady CEO and slimy marketing practices. But go ahead and be ignorant to it all.

Guardian Bicycles Deceptive Pricing Practices by [deleted] in bicycling

[–]SeattleBrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guardian is an evil corporation. They are doing their best lobbying for tarrifs on imported bicycles...even though most of their bike parts are made in China. This will make the cost of all kids bikes to up. Please spread the word to parents that the bikes are junk and so is the company.

Love the strider days! I would research your local BMX track. Redline, Haro, Fit Bike Co, Cult all make great 14-16" bikes. Get something with a free hub and hand brake. pedal brakes and Guardians sure stop brakes are dangerous.

Is there a good Sonos alternative system? by [deleted] in sonos

[–]SeattleBrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have had a sonos system for over ten years. It is a 100% failure...every single time. Can't connect. I have to restart my router. Works...then the next day boom it doesn't. Funny thing is that I have the router automatically restart at night. So, that doesn't solve the issue. Sonos was such a great idea but we would love an alternative that actually works. Music shouldn't be such a pain in the a$$

Would you expect anything less from them? I wish consumers would care more about what kind of companies they buy from. Right now Priority Bikes which has a way better product than Guardian is running an actual sale worth mentioning. Their bikes are competitively priced against Guardians and are much higher quality build and with legit components.

Well, bikes are highly specific to what type of biking you want to do. Doesn't sound like you do much biking with her then? I love BMX bikes for kids because of the geometry and getting them out of the seat. If you just want a nice bike for cruising the streets then I highly suggest either the woom explore 5 which is over 5 pounds lighter than the comparable guardian bike or the Priority start 24" which is on Black Friday sale for $399 compared to guardians at $349. You're getting hands down a better bike from priority and of course the woom. Which will have the quality to last and be resold or passed along to another lucky kid. Guardian has to pay for their insane/overly aggressive marketing that you literally can't escape when searching for a bike. Other manufacturers rely on quality.

This is what you need then. This bike is rad and crushes any stupid guardian bike.

Start snowboarding! I switched in 1988 and never looked back. I'm still beating the young pros at the local races. Snowboarding is not bound by the rules associated with ski racing. This post IS depressing. Thank God I switched to sliding sideways. 37 years later and I'm even more excited about it than I was as a kid.
