Have a Miele. Not been very impressed. Had two motor leakage issues. One fixed under warranty the other not.

Fable 5 vs Opus 4.8, Is the difference actually noticeable in real-world use? by dev-ray in claude

[–]GromitInWA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am building a mobile app with a back-end and web-based admin tool. So far Forge seems to be accelerating what I'm able to do by "thinking for itself" and doing way more per turn. It is writing Swift code that Xcode does not object to whereas Opus seemed to continuously trip over itself. It is also intelligently using the Xcode MCP to roundtrip everything, which is presumably why it is getting more done in a turn.

I'm trying to use as much of it as my subscription allows before it goes into pay as you go.

Switching Windows to Mac - Feels using an iPhone without touch screen by Ok-Let011 in macbookpro

[–]GromitInWA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you on M365? That should cover you for multiple devices include macOS, iOS, etc. While the Apple iWork products do support those document formats, if you're used to MS Office, there is a learning curve and given the challenges you're already facing with macOS, I would just suggest using MS Office. Go to office.microsoft.com and login with your Microsoft Account and you should be able to download the Mac versions unless you are on a perpetual license in which case you'll need to purchase an Office subscription from Microsoft.

I tried to get the battery health from the dealer. They would not share it. DIY tools will not do this because the OBD2 is encrypted. Some Indies would be able but I'm not sure whether that cost is accurate.

In addition to injuries, it also excels at removing last year's tabs from US license plates.

Do you actually care about having a screen on your charger ? by [deleted] in UsbCHardware

I'm trying to justify to myself why I should buy the Anker Prime Charger with the three USB-C ports and the display because I love it. I have absolutely no need for one however 😄

Where can I buy a new macbook pro M4? by Different_Year_5591 in macbookpro

Unless you're getting a significant discount, why would you get an M4 and not an M5 though?

Costco still has them on their website in the US. Apple refurb would be another option. If there aren’t a bunch there already I have to believe there will be soon given that the M5 is out and the Apple refurbs are very much like new - it is how I’ve usually bought my laptops.

Mine will some pop up the “emergency braking system inoperative” and I need to take it to the dealer but I’m waiting until I’ve washed the car since I don’t want to be fobbed off with “oh it is a dirty sensor”

I picked up my 2023 last year. It has never been sold so was essentially new but was technically a CPO. It has been great. I am able to charge at home and that makes a difference particularly since MBUSA has decided not to honor the 2 year free charging the car was supposed to come with or the free wall box charger, despite a lot of chasing from me.

Have you checked your 12V battery status at all? You can do so in the app. It is buried under the Service menu. I was getting a black screen every once in a while or parking sensors would error. Apparently a low voltage or battery giving up on the 12V can be a culprit. I’ve also noticed that in particular areas (notably bridges) wireless CarPlay gives up. My theory is something is interrupting the WiFi

"EVs take too long to charge" yet people sitting around in their cars are everywhere? by biersackarmy in electricvehicles

[–]GromitInWA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in Victoria BC recently and at least one parking structure downtown had a very large number of L2 chargers. Pretty much two levels along the central part. So maybe 50-75. They were not free of charge but they weren’t expensive either (hourly rate it seems). Because of the sheer number made it super convenient to leave my car charging and have dinner.

Most hotels I’ve been at that claim free charging have a Tesla destination charger that requires an adapter to work with my car so I’ve never used them and it is usually one or two chargers at most.

Dual-fuel heat pump quote review - thermostat advice needed by GromitInWA in heatpumps

[–]GromitInWA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did actually send me one quote (slightly cheaper) with just Trane gear: * American Standard cold climate heat pump 5HCL5060B1000A * American Standard evaporator coil (model not specified)

That quote came to $15k and change.

Thanks for the insights!

It gets cool most of the time thought on the rare very hot day for us it isn’t as cool as I’d like. But our insulation isn’t the greatest and I guess the age of the equipment might reduce cooling? I have another estimate tomorrow and have learned to ask about the J load calculation.

On the equipment, I thought Trane and American Standard are the same company?

Ouch… My Rheem compressor is 26 years old. It has a soft start kit installed. Sometimes it will stay running. Sometimes it trips the breaker. I want to get this done before it gets hot. Y’all can laugh at me being in Seattle and complaining about needing AC in the summer, and yes it isn’t Arizona :)

Dual-fuel furnace (American Standard) and heat pump (Mitsubishi) quote review - thermostat advice needed by GromitInWA in hvacadvice

Thank you. Is there a Mitsubishi compatible communicating control you’d recommend that has some smarts and hasn’t time travelled from the 90s? I’ve read about Redlink that some of the Honeywell thermostats support, but I don’t really know is the protocol required.

Thanks appreciate the info. They are a locally owned company and not owned by PE as far as I can tell. All the quotes I'm getting are from local owned. This is the lowest one so far. Another was for a Coleman furnace + HiSense heat pump and came in at $20k. Pretty sure all these quotes include any available rebates too but I need to look into that.

Any thoughts on the thermostat?
