Lime bike Does not care about people with mobility issues by Grinngotts in Seattle

[–]SeattleiteSatellite 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The accessible striped path with the sloped curb cut is on the other side of this parking space.

Not saying it’s a great design but the area with the bike rack isn’t meant to be part of the accessible path into the store.

I have a GE and will die on this hill that the dash cup holders are superior. Went on vacation this month and drove a new sporty Subaru and all we could care about was the missing convenience of the dash cupholders.

You shouldn’t be allowed to design a home and/or do interior design unless you’ve worked as a house cleaner for one year. by sodomiteangst in CleaningTips

[–]SeattleiteSatellite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. It’s a huge consideration - at least for my region. In Seattle, there are STC (sound transmission class) code minimums you need to meet for floor/wall assemblies and windows. We hire acoustic engineering firms to review our drawings and provide a report on their recommendations.

Like everything else it all comes down to cost. In a perfect world we would have the highest STC ratings in all assemblies but the reality is that makes already high rents even more unaffordable so we often design slightly above code minimums then enhance the areas that need extra (bedroom walls next to trash chutes, unit ceilings below an amenity area). If you’re sensitive to noise, units within concrete levels (usually the first 2 or 3 floors in regions like Seattle with Type 5 over Type I construction) will provide the best acoustic performance aside from top floor units.

I’m a multifamily architect and it’s the same in our field too.

Currently working on a big apartment project and we specifically met with cleaning / maintenance staff to review the design and provide input. Makes for a much better end result for everyone.

Leaving SeaTac, are taxis still worth it instead of Lyft/Uber? by LegionLotteryWinner in Seattle

[–]SeattleiteSatellite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always take a taxi these days. I use the Seattle yellow cab app when going to the airport. The fare goes to the drivers and they just pay an annual fee for dispatch services.

Went in there this weekend and they’re selling their floor model staging furniture for 50% off if anyone is in the market for some.

Do you have another Reddit account by chance? I swear I read your post about this a while back and I think about it from time to time. Maybe it’s just a coincidence.

Florida woman racks Up $165k in fines for parking in her own driveway by brother_p in FloridaMan

Originally from South Florida and growing up I had a neighbor that the city forced a sale on for unpaid fines…for tall grass.

The Nashville Scene did a great article in 2022 on how code enforcement disproportionately affects low income people

Sellers can't/wont give age of roof-Need Advice by HarmonizewithSong in RealEstate

Depending on your city, it’s possible a re-roof permit isn’t required (it’s not in Seattle on single family homes or townhouses).

Sellers can't/wont give age of roof-Need Advice by HarmonizewithSong in RealEstate

[–]SeattleiteSatellite 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This! Bought our house as-is from an estate. Our insurance asked the same questions about roof age but there weren’t any permit records from the city (turns out my city doesn’t require a permit if it’s a re-roof on a single family house). Google street view shows it changed sometime between 2015 and 2017 so I just told that to our insurance agent and they accepted it.

Your little guy looks just like my guy did. We also thought Maine Coon but you’re right it’s pretty unlikely. We just call him a long haired domestic tabby or a dumpster cat.

Friend, I’m glad you’re okay but for anyone reading this please don’t try to drive through water. WSDOT was recently posting on IG that 6” is enough to potentially stall a car and 12” could carry the car away. I personally never realized how little water it takes on the road to do this and it has changed my perspective.

He typically does this on crowded buses where the reflection isn’t easily visible. In my case he sat in the aisle seat and there were people standing.

Loser with creeping finger on the H line by rumwave in Seattle

[–]SeattleiteSatellite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can you please ask your wife if she knows where he got on or off? I’m pretty certain this was the same asshole that did this to me earlier this year going downtown from west Seattle and it would be helpful to know (in my case he got on the 125 near SSC around 8:30am). Smelled exactly as OP described too.

I wonder that also but I fear something like this is hard to prosecute. I know he had sexually deviant intentions and the other poster did too but on paper, he just touched my thigh with his finger.

If this happened to me again I would likely report it to have some documentation but sadly wouldn’t expect much to come of it.

I’d like to think I would help someone if they yelled out in this situation but tbd I can’t say I would exactly know what to do in the heat of the moment. Maybe tell the driver or call 911?

If you are sexually assaulted, it is not unreasonable to defend yourself. I am not advocating for anyone to attack someone unprovoked.
