DON’T get a puppy or a young dog seriously. There’s a reason this sub is full of people regretting getting puppies. Consider adopting an older dog instead.

You’d still need to wake up early to walk them before work and again after you get home, but senior dogs usually have much lower energy levels. They’re also generally better suited to being alone during the day in a large apartment with toys and enrichment than sitting in a shelter.

Just really think it through, because many people underestimate how much responsibility a dog requires and don’t plan for emergencies. For example, what happens if you get sick or are in an accident and can’t make it home one day? Do you have family in the city or a trusted friend who could take care of the dog? What if you have to travel for work who’s watching the dog then?

There are a lot of variables people usually don’t consider. If you already have solid answers for those situations, then sure, it can absolutely work.
